SAL’S GUMBO SHACK TO HOST ‘KIDS IN THE KITCHEN’ TOUR FOR LONG BEACH MIDDLE SCHOOLERS on NOVEMBER 1
Sal’s Gumbo Shack has two locations: this event is to be held at 4470 California Place in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood of Long Beach.
Sal’s Gumbo Shack and proprietor/chef Sally Lewis is hosting a kitchen tour for 15 middle school-ages
from the YMCA Long Beach Afterschool Program on Tuesday, November 1 from 3:30 – 5 pm.
The kids will get a very special hands-on opportunity to learn about professional cooking, along with
hygiene and safety in the kitchen, courtesy of a real restaurant owner/chef. Led by Lewis, they will also
get hands-on experience by cooking up jambalaya to enjoy together at the restaurant following their
kitchen experience.
“We are excited to reach out to the kids in our local community and show them what it’s like to
cook in a real restaurant kitchen,” explained Lewis. “This opportunity will give a real-life
restaurant kitchen experience to kids interested in the culinary arts and may even encourage
them to continue on this exciting career path.”
The ongoing Kids in the Kitchen tours are being organized
by 501(c)3 non-profit Long Beach Food & Beverage.
