ULTA will be adding more than one thousand BNY displays to its stores during Hispanic Heritage Month.
“My products are for aging women, not necessarily just Hispanic women,
but the message was completely inspired by my Venezuelan heritage,”
Sonsoles Gonzalez, founder of the haircare line “Better Not Younger“, says.
“Beauty is worshipped in Venezuela. We hold the record on Miss Universe titles. Women in Venezuela take care of their hair, nails,
face, and bodies. There are hair salons everywhere, and they are always packed. Growing up in Venezuela made me understand the connection between self-care
and self-confidence. It also gave me the perspective of inclusive beauty. Because in Venezuela, rich or poor, old or young, all women want to look beautiful and
they take pride in the time and money they invest to do so,” Gonzalez says.“Better Not Younger is all about inclusive beauty, giving mature women the opportunity to look as great as they feel,” she says.
Because beauty is not defined by race—or age.
As for her direct support of the Hispanic community, Gonzalez believes that the best way to advocate for other Latinas is to be a mentor
and role model.
“I’m always looking at ways help the Latin community, that’s why over 50% of my team today is Hispanic. I also mentor Latin entrepreneurs who are trying to
start or expand a business in the U.S. They need more role models and access to experienced leaders that can help them navigate the startup world. Female
Hispanic founders get very little funding. Capital tends to go to men. There needs to be more conversation around that,” Gonzalez says.
She also has this inspiring message for aspiring Hispanic female founders:
“You deserve a seat at the table. Remember, even if your English is not perfect, your thoughts and experience are.
Don’t let fact that you look or sound different get in the way.”
