Spring Cleaning is often very difficult when you are looking at your closet. It’s a very time-consuming chore because you have to
dig through drawers of clothing as well as your closet. You have to make decisions about what clothing + accessories work for summer.
You don’t have to ditch clothing or accessories that are winter items. Dealing with winter items is easier because you can pack them up
and label the box.
Dealing with spring/summer clothing is HARD. However, there is a person that can help you determine what spring/summer clothing you should keep and what you should ditch. Spring cleaning has officially begun, but cleaning out your wardrobe can be incredibly overwhelming.
Celebrity Stylist Kim Appelt has some very smart and helpful tips about Spring Cleaning your Closet!
We all have clothing we haven’t worn in years but refuse to get rid of, or the outfit we are hell-bent on fitting into. Many of us are guilty of having more than one closet filled with clothing, but we still feel like we have nothing to wear. The good news is, you’re not alone!
Celebrity Stylist Kim Appelt has done a video (currently on YOUTUBE.com) about how you should handle sifting
through your clothing and giving clothing you don’t want to the Giving Closet. In this video, you can see how you should
ascertain if specific items are keepers or others who aren’t.
Once you start that “cleaning out” process, you might need to get help from a friend or family member. I personally
have done some closet cleaning (both my closet as well as helping my friends sift through their closets). Yes, it can be
a bit time-consuming, but once you start filling up a few boxes you will start finding that the sifting through the clothing
and other items gets easier.

Celebrity fashion stylist, TV personality, & YouTuber, Kim Appelt has 5 tips for spring cleaning your closet to make it
as stress-free as possible.
-
Gather materials ahead of time.
Make sure you have boxes, bags, sticky notes, tape, a mirror, the proper undergarments to try on clothes, good
music, and a beverage of choice. You can even ask a friend to come over for support.
Being prepared will set you up for success. -
Put it all out there.
Take everything out of your closet, even the shoes or old dresses you have hiding in the back, and lay it on your bed.
Do the same with your shelves and drawers. -
Separate into 4 piles:
Keep, Mend, Donate, and Trash. Everything in your wardrobe should fall into one of these categories.
When you’re done, throw away the trash pile, and then you can sort through your donation pile to see what
should be given to charity, what can be given to a friend, or even what could be sold. -
Value what you keep.
Everything that has made it into your keep pile deserves to be treated well. You can put these items
back in your closet on velvet hangers or neatly fold items before putting them into your drawers. Doing this will
help you appreciate what you have. -
Don’t be too hard on yourself.
If it’s your first time, you might not get rid of as much clothing as you had hoped, but that’s okay! Once you
start buying new pieces to balance out your wardrobe, you’ll have more confidence in getting rid of the items
that are no longer working for you.
