Check Out this Study about the Most Popular Cocktail(s) In Every State!

  • Old Fashioned was the most popular cocktail in the country — nine different states searched for them the most.
  • Margarita came in as the second most searched cocktail overall, being the most popular cocktail in eight states.

  • On the other hand, there were also some stand-alones that were beloved by just a single state such as
    –Bellini in Alabama,
    –Mai Tai in Hawaii, and
    –Paloma in New Mexico.
Interest in cocktails naturally peaks over the summer months as we make the most of the sunshine and longer days.
The study by the alcohol company, Drinks House 247, crunched Google search interest data from every state in the last 12 months to determine which types of cocktails were the subject of the most searches.
The study led to some revelations about our country. For starters, regions certainly have their favorites, but if there is any
commonality to be found amongst our drinking decisions, it’s our nation’s shared love of a classic Old Fashioned!

Old Fashioned came in as the most searched-for cocktail in nine states, namely, Alaska, Delaware, Idaho, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and South Dakota, making it a truly coast-to-coast drink choice.
The next most popular cocktail, with a solid eight-state showing, was the timeless Margarita which finds its most extensive fan base across eastern states, including Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Hampshire, and Tennessee.
Though there were a few commonalities, there were also a few true standouts.
–For example, those in Alabama are apparently searching high and low for their Bellini, a blend of peach purée and sparkling wine.–The Paloma, a refreshing tequila-based cocktail, is adored in New Mexico,

–While South Carolina wakes up with the vibrant Tequila Sunrise.

–The creamy White Russian has found its biggest fans in Wyoming.

There were also some clear local favorites, like :
–the Daiquiri in Louisiana.

–Mai Tai in Hawaii.

–The Cosmopolitan, known for its pleasing mix of vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice, and fresh lime juice, rules the roost in Nevada, Rhode Island, and Utah.

–Bloody Mary finds its ardent followers in West Virginia and Wisconsin.
–Further south, the Daiquiri is the toast of Louisiana and Texas.
–The Long Island Iced Tea, the potent blend of vodka holds sway in Iowa, Montana, and Oklahoma.
–Kentucky keeps it classic with the Martini, and the Mimosa wins favor in Colorado, Michigan, and Mississippi.

–Arkansas and Georgia, on the other hand, prefer the cool Mojito,

–while the Moscow Mule, the third most popular cocktail, according to the study, is the top choice in seven states:
–Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, and North Carolina.
–New York went with its Euro-focused compatriot on the West Coast, Vermont, picking the bittersweet Italian classic Negroni.
The cocktail was also the most searched cocktail in California, Virginia, and Washington.
Reza Zadeh founder of Drinks House 247 commented on the findings:
“The study reveals not just the diversity of cocktail preferences across the United States; but also shines a light on the underlying alcohol of choice. The study  was conducted by the alcohol company, Drinks House 247
— From the cosmopolitan appeal of the Cosmopolitan in Nevada, Rhode Island, and Utah to the
–classic allure of the Martini in Kentucky, it’s clear that vodka is the country’s most universally favored base liquor.
This shows that each state enjoys its special cocktail, but a shared love for that versatile liquor  that binds them”
Methodology:
In order to find the most searched cocktails, we looked at each state’s cocktail-related Google searches for the last 12 months.
Cocktails were entered in both their standard format e.g ‘Mojito’ as well as their other related keywords such as ‘mojito recipe’.
