WHO:

Organized by award-winning WGA/SAG-AFTRA member Stephanie Sanditz and boxing coach Dave Gilmore. Frank Grillo, Pej Vahdaht, Eric Balfour and others expected to attend.

Gilmore says, “I’m the third generation in my family involved with boxing. I’m from the DC area and my weekends as a kid were me and my dad chasing down a tournament somewhere on the East coast. Eventually I took the knowledge I gained over the years, stepped out in faith, and went into business for myself, to teach others the sport my dad taught me, which I’ve continued to do for the last decade or so. I’ve trained everyone from pro fighters and high-level amateurs to Hollywood’s roll call of actors, writers, directors, producers, and agents. I also have an extensive client base in the music industry. I simply try to spread all the positive vibes I can, to as many people as I can, through the sport I love!”

Regarding the strike, Gilmore says, “I’ve been training people in the industry here in LA for more than 20 years, and as a result, I have many dear friends affected by this work stoppage. I stand in solidarity with them as they merely seek fair wages and working conditions through the strike.”

Sanditz, a woman who Variety said, “has made a name for herself in creating stories about women called to battle,” says, “I am proud to have been making a living through SAG and WGA for nearly two decades. It’s been a long, hard, persistent battle. That has been incredibly beautiful and rewarding…but it has been work. We only hope that the films and series we make for the companies that profit from them pay and treat us fairly. And recognize our value.”

Stephanie began training with Dave when hired to write a Boxing/MMA Romance feature during the pandemic. “Working with Coach Dave while writing taught me a lot about human resilience, timing, listening and patience. ‘Hold for the opening, go for a kill.’ It’s now our time to fight back.” Sanditz continues, “Aside from coaching with him, I made a mentor, and dear friend. Our hope is that this special picket is a way for strikers, friends and family all affected by the work stoppage to have fun, get out aggression, and pay homage to fight-themed filmed entertainment—that typically show underdogs, who fight for what is just, and never give up, can eventually achieve victory.”
