Like so many, Philadelphia-born actor Adam Shapiro (Mank, The Affair) turned to baking during quarantine as a way to pass the time and feel a little comfort of home. Instead of cookies and pies like most others, the LA-based thespian set out to recreate the soft pretzels that he was so obsessed with while growing up. As luck would have it, his wife, Katie Lowes (Scandal), was filling in as host for Kelly Ripa on Kelly & Ryan only for Ryan Seacrest to ask what they have been up to during their time stuck at home. Ryan tried a batch of pretzels on-air, raved about their amazing taste and doughiness…and the rest, as they say, is history.
Shappy Pretzel Co was officially born.
Since that fateful day on TV in August 2020, Shappy Pretzel Co. has sold more than 100,000 of its delicious, authentic, Philadelphia soft pretzels, as well as their sweet additions, which include Lil’ Albees Pretzel Bites (Sweet or Salty) and OreYo stuffed pretzels, at various pop-up locations across the greater Los Angeles area. In addition to the weekly pop-ups, Shappy Pretzels are now the snack of choice on film & TV sets, as well as at weddings and events around town. Shappy Pretzels can be pre-ordered on the company’s website, although walk-ups are welcome. Soft, salty deliciousness awaits. Shappy Pretzels…Philly born, LA bread!!
