Sports N’ Hobbies did some serious number crunching to find out how the population feels about SUPER BOWL LVI..  and who could win. They queried people in every state and they have a map that shows who each state of the union is backing!

The Super Bowl is one of the most popular sporting events of the year and in 2022, the teams are causing quite a stir!

The Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals are a surprising pair of teams to see in this widely-watched football match.

 

So is the nation rooting for the tried-and-true yellow and blue? Or cheering on the underdog from Ohio? Find out in our map below!

Facts and Findings

• More than half the nation is rooting for the Cincinnati Bengals (30 states)
• California is the number-one fan for the Rams with 74% of searches for their home team
• The last time the Bengals made it to the Super Bowl was in 1989—more than 30 years ago!
• Unsurprisingly, the state with the most people cheering for the Bengals is Cincinnati with 86% of searches for their team
• The Rams were last in the Super Bowl only a few years ago in 2019, but their last and only win was in 2000, when they were based in St. Louis
• Six states had a 50-50 split between the teams:
  • Arkansas
  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Texas

• Six states had an even 50-50 tie between the Bengals and the Rams

• Unsurprisingly, the homes states of each team are the top fans of their respective teams

Methodology

We compared the percentages of Google searches surrounding the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles Rams from February 1, 2022, through February 8, 2022 (the week leading up to the Super Bowl) to find out which team each state is rooting for.

I am a Rams fan and I know a ton of people who are rooting for the RAMS. Of course, to most people,  the Rams are the underdogs, but they can really get their team going and win. They did it in the semi-finals. While I wish both teams good luck, my heart is hoping for our home team.
