Scott Heric, the mastermind behind Unionly and other platforms, has put together this piece about “The Power of Love”… as it relates to those of us who want to make a difference!
The Power of Love
By Scott Heric
According to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees’ latest estimate, nearly six million Ukrainians have been displaced from their homes since Russia
invaded their country on February 24th. This is by far the largest refugee crisis in Europe’s history. While it’s encouraging to see foreign diplomats return to Kyiv
in recent weeks, most Ukrainians have no idea when they’ll be back in their homes — or if they still have homes to return to at all.
To make matters worse, the majority of these devastated Ukrainian refugees are women and young children.
All of us who are shocked and saddened by something we never thought we would see in our lifetime are doing what we can to help. This includes artists and members of the technology community. Music is our universal language, and the internet has given us an incredibly powerful platform through which to express both our grief and support for those who are suffering so much.
If ever there was a time to combine the power of the internet and the power of music to unleash the power of love, that time is now.
Thankfully, we already know how to do it — because we already are doing it.
Two years ago, some friends connected me with Patti Collins, who happens to be the wife of legendary bass player and singer Bootsy Collins. At the time, she was looking to do a Covid-related fundraiser. My company, Unionly, happened to operate a non-profit brand devoted to fundraising called Gively. We agreed to provide the platform. In return, Bootsy provided the talent; Patty, the passion. The final result of this collaborative effort manifested in a fundraiser called MusiCares.
Now, with Covid exiting the pandemic phase, we’ve decided to continue our relationship with a new campaign to support Ukraine.
We’re calling it, “The Power of Love.”
The Japanese guitarist Buckethead (formerly of Guns ‘n Roses) and Bootsy have donated two new songs as exclusive rewards for participating in this effort.
The unreleased tracks — Sunflowers & Dancing and In The Snow — are only being made available in order to benefit Ukrainian women and their families.
In other words, 100% of funds raised from these songs will go towards providing relief.
The message from the tech and music communities could not be clearer: we stand for, and with, Ukraine.
How does it work?
Anyone who donates at least five dollars can download both of the available songs directly through the campaign’s website.
—Bootsy is also promoting the campaign on his website and social media accounts. Feel free to stop by or even encourage your friends and family members to do so.
You can also visit Bootsy’s own foundation’s page for more details.
Remember, sharing is caring!
The most recent estimates are that Ukraine will need hundreds of billions of dollars in order to rebuild their nation, its infrastructure, and its citizens from the destruction wrought by the Russian Army destruction that is, sadly, ongoing — even as I write this.
Five dollars may not seem like a lot, but we know how technology has a way of scaling things very quickly.
If we all are able to lean on the power of love, there is no limit to how much we can help contribute.
Scott Heric is the co-founder of Unionly and its foundation arm, Gively.
About Scott Heric:
Scott Heric is the Co-Founder of Unionly. He was born and raised in Seattle.
–Scott helped develop sales and account management for Avvo, growing from 30 to 500 people over 7 years.
–After Avvo, Scott took a Chief of Staff role at Snap Advance, which (at that time)was part of a company called Snap Mobile Inc.
–For over 4 years, he oversaw the development of the product, marketing, sales, and account management, leading to the company being the leading digital fundraising platform in higher education.
–Having worked on the concept for Unionly for over 3 years and after being acquired in January of 2020, Scott began to really think about making Unionly a reality. In April of 2020, that dream came true.
Thank you to Scott Heric of Unionly for this article or rather this letter to you (and me!) Scott’s message is quite clear about what we can do…
and most of us can skip a tall coffee and contribute $5!
I am impressed and moved by Scott Heric’s message in this article. I watch and keep on top of what’s going on in Ukraine. I know that you are aware of the horrific situation in Ukraine and how those I — like many others– want to do something to help. While most of us can’t visit Ukraine, we can make a donation to help the people of Ukraine and give them hope.
