Last Minute Shopping & Fashion Guide: My Favorite Denim & Cord Picks.

Note that this does not say HOLIDAY GIFTS on this– unless you are sure you know what the woman wants and wears. However there is that spot in my heart for giving a gift to oneself.
Here are my current favorite go-to jeans and cords. Some are on my wish list and will be noted as such and others I have in the closet and they are getting worn a great deal!
If you are into denim as a major fashion staple, (count me in that group), you might be interested in this post about my favorite picks for denim and cord 5 pocket styles that work both high and low end of the price spectrum.
From Freedom of Choice– often a great choice in my closet from wide legs to skinnies and even moto-cross type leggings, this brand has it all.
My current two favorites are the amazing jeans jacket! Slide into this over that cute party dress to toughen up the look and give it some edge!

Also on my top ten fave list are these ombre jeans
These black to grey jeans are super cool while being sizzling hot — if you catch my drift.

Another jeans line I love and wear a lot is Denim of Virtue and this particular style is very hot right now and I think that it’s a real twist on the trend towards zippers but emphasizes and shows off your pricey shoes (thank goodness someone decided to realize shoe make a difference) . You can find this style here with the twisted seam and minimal detailing

Another brand of denim that I am loving– and I have these jeans — is this look from Anoname. It’s super-light wash might put you off, but don’t let that stop you. It’s actually quite the attention-getter as I found out by wearing it around LA 2-3 times and got tons of compliments. (even some women at Pacific Palisades’ Elyse Walker– both employees and clients) on these jeans for the “shredded styling” as well as the great fit. (It does mean I have to watch what I am eating over the holidays)

One great way to make the destructed jeans work well for winter is to wear various colored and/or sweater tights under them. The tights cover the holes and give you a bit more interest which switches out when you choose to wear a color, fishnets or stripes. Also it’s warmer!!

Another line I love, love, love is DL 1961!! This 360 degree stretch fits unlike anything else I have seen. It’s incredibly comfortable and they don’t bag out– though none of the jeans I featured would/should. I have 3 pairs of these jeans– and I wear them a lot both skinny and straight. (kate and tory) in dark and light washes with destruction and also a dark saturated wash that is incomparable for a day to night look.

Other jeans you should be checking out that are pretty affordable include Gap’s Premium Denim Collection . Having attended the Premium Denim blogger party in LA on Robertson’s pop-up store for Gap, I bought a slew of jeans since then.
Here’s my favorite pair that competes with my love for DL 1961 destructed jeans with similar styling.

I am jonesing for the Premium Saturated Dark Wash— or would buy it in black if they had it. It’s one of those LBD things (little black denims) that I love.
Seven for All Mankind caught my attention recently with their fast-selling, super-soft, almost legging like Gummy jeans. I love the feel, the fit and wish they had more than black, grey and dark blue– chocolate and rust would be awesome colors.

Since I don’t own any Seven jeans (I tend to go with indie/cult brands and/or styles), it’s a notion to add in a mainstream brand.
Cords are now hot and just in time for the colder weather. I went on a spree and bought a few pair:

JCrew’s Vintage Matchstick Cords— in aubergine — as well as a boot cut in glazed pecan which was a medium warm brown.
After buying the JCrew cords, I found a no-wale (not ribbed) cord from Martin + Osa in a similar color. Quite frankly I bought several things from different brands in aubergine, black currant, and plum that wound up being the same color. Go figure that out.

These wonderful pants come in 3 colors and are on sale RIGHT NOW for under $50 bucks. Hurry and snag a pair. You won’t be sorry.
Banana Republic was the last place I thought to look for dark brown cords, but no one else had them in the price I was willing to pay– under $100.

These were almost $80 but I used a coupon to get a discount. This is the “perfect:” color of dark brown that I wanted and I wear them often because I have a lot of clothing that works well with dark brown as the neutral. The pair I bought was the skinny one (duh) and there is a flare cord as well .
