When I first spoke with jewelry designer

    Scott Janiak –Ross

, it was after receiving an amazing email from him. Scott was very supportive of what I was doing on Style Coven which is combining the supernatural with lifestyle because he confided to me that when he is designing a wedding band, if the design is too difficult to crystallize into a concept, then the marriage usually doesn’t work out! We laughed at that. So, after we bonded based on our precognitive gifts I was ever so delighted to discover that he is the designer who created Penelope Cruz’ cross for “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”

As you know, I’ve been doing stories about products connected to “Pirate Style” that are closer to couture than the usual stuff that you can buy at Walmart or on Etsy. Maybe he heard my psychic call and answered. I would like to think so. Skinny Dog Design Group created the golden cross worn by Penelope in the movie! So, Mr. Janiak-Ross has once again, miraculously reaffirmed my psychic and fashion sensibilities with just a simple “Ahoy there, matey.”

You see, I am huge fan of Penelope because of her well earned status as a style icon. I admire the fact that of all the cast including the incredible Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush and Ian McShane that Penelope, who has graced the pages of Vogue and InStyle regularly, is the only Oscar Winner. Her performance in Woody Allen’s “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” won her the golden statue in 2009. So even in such stellar company, this girl is definitely golden while the boys club is still on the verge. And she cuts a fine figure as a pirate, too.

In between she was nominated for her supporting role in Rob Marshall’s “Nine.” So it is no surprise that he cast her again in POTC. This Spanish siren who is married to another gorgeous Oscar winner, Javier Bardem is riding high. So, if you’re in the market for a glittering bit of memorabilia, but want to buy something a cut above the regular fare, then go to the Skinny Dog Design Group. Admittedly, I am a fanatic for the Disney Store in the flesh and online. Can’t get enough of it. But it’s nice to know I can go to the designer when I’m aiming for a “gold standard.” Gold treasure is what fills this girl’s chest. (wink)


Likewise, Skinny Dog Designs also created the ring worn by Ian McShane’s “Blackbeard” in the film. This magnificent bauble is bound to be a “must have” for those pirate lads and ladies out there who want to wear a bit of danger along with a bit of glitter.… Arrrrr…

Now you know where to find a “couture” version… and you know how we LOVE couture. After all, real pirates are the first to covet the finer things in life. Anything fit for the chic and elite is what Style Coven is so interested in discovering for our readers. Needless to say, we love our chic swag and we love our Disney!
