Hot Music Alert: Jay Nash Makes iTunes Sizzle with 'The Things You Think You Need. LA Peeps, WIN a Pair of Tickets to Hotel Cafe Show 6/13.

Hot music news travels fast– faster than lightning during a thunderstorm and that’s sort of what Jay Nash does– though as you listen to the podcast, his slow almost drawl of a voice bely the power of the voice you hear on the songs. His laid back approach on the ‘cast is diametrically opposed to the power he has on the CD and on-stage.

His new CD “‘The Things You Think You Need is a collection of 10 songs that are a must have and you need to listen to them– because they will pierce you to the core ifyou let them into your heart and soul.

When I was first approached about talking to Jay, it was more like 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon except it’s musically based with Jay Nash being the hub of the wheel– and he is truly connected and plugged in to the LA & NYC music scene. Virtually every name he mentioned I knew, have seen or had interviewed– and he’s got personal contacts that’s are totally authentic.
What’s even better is his stories about how he has made his way musically through Room Five– (on La Brea in Hollywood) via booking and playing.
What I loved about talking to Jay and you can figure out WHY this podcast is split into two parts is because he’s so damn accessible as a person. He’s willing to talk, share and give of hmself– as a person and a musician. We talked for over 40 minutes– almost one of the longest podcasts I have done.
His musical chops are serious– and his lyrics are so gut-wrenching– about the things you think you need– but do you really? What is it in your life that you need and what is it that you want? That’s the operative question here. The musical back-up that Jay’s got on this CD breaks my heart, it’s so great. Listen to the podcast to find out just who it is.In case you want to multi-task while you listen to this 18 minute version (seriously edited folks!) .. then you can read this bit of 411 slipped to me about Jay Nash.
Within 48 hours of its release last week, Jay Nash’s “The Things You Think You Need” hit #22 on the iTunes Rock Chart. To heighten the accomplishment, he remains the only truly independent artist on a list that heavy hitters from a slew of labels. He’s a man making his own stand– in his own way.

The success and the speed in which he’s achieved it in entirely due to Nash’s bourbon meets silk voice and organic ability to create a story that mesmerizes. This collection of 10 reflective songs includes appearances by Sara Bareilles and David Immergluck and Charlie Gillingham of Counting Crows. Produced by Chris Seefried (of God’s Child and Low Stars), Nash uses his words and melodies to evoke moods and thought without blueprints or songwriting formulas.

One such example of his talents is the song “Barcelona” (featuring Sara Bareilles). During an ongoing MySpace promotion, Jay shared the construction of the song, his own personal photos from the inspirational trip to Barcelona, and the song’s lyrics.
As an exclusive for his MySpace friends, Jay will share the original, unproduced demo of “Barcelona” in the first week of June.
