One word perfectly sums up this collection: Whimsical!
Then I thought, “Fairy tale, fantasy and ethereal”…
all this before I even read through the press materials following the show and it turns out I was spot on!

The story designer Ashleigh Verrier wanted to tell through her collection was that of the interplay between “Innocence” and “experience”, “naïveté and knowingness” with “subtle subversions of sweetness, delicious dips into darkness.” And she succeeded–the looks presented on the runway putting that poetry into motion…

There were 33 looks in all (each piece absolutely fit for a princess!) with the dominant fabrics being taffeta, linen, satin, chiffon and cotton in dreamy colors such as “Carnation pink”, “Dove grey” and “Aquamarine” and “Ivory”. Swarovski crystals abounded as well, substantiating the fairy tale.

Given the collection’s originality and consistency, Verrier was named Parsons’ “Designer of the Year” back in 2004, Saks Fifth Avenue purchased her “entire senior thesis collection” and sold it alongside Balenciaga and Chloe.

This “fairy tale” had a happy ending in the form of an adorable canvas gift bag filled with goodies including wellness products like Viactiv and Neutrogena’s Age Shield Hand Cream, and adorned with the motto “strength. style. for life.Verrier.” amidst three royal purple silhouettes of the feminine form in dresses. I was ready to hop in a carriage and go off to the ball–well, I sort of did but not quite.

More like jogged in the rain and descended into the subway to go across town to the Kahri show.

Thanks to Joyce Artinian for covering this fabulous show. These gorgeous girly girl colors– much like candies in a store are refreshing after such somber tones.
