Weddings tend to be over the top but given today’s economy, most brides are scaling back to afford the best they can with a limited budget. Not so Fergie and Josh Duhamel!! They maxed out the bling– and while we wish them well in their marriage, we wish that they could have used some of that 1.5 million (or more) to help others in need than just a singular event where the bride had more diamonds than a deck of cards.
This uber-private wedding was in Malibu and while there are tons of details already out there having already had it broadcast this AM and late last night, it’s wild to see that much money be spent on a wedding at a time where people are losing homes, jobs and having trouble feeding their children or paying for phone, food or heating bills
US Magazine cover
According to JustJared.com who got his 411 from People Magazine and Us Magazine— and was announced this AM on ABC Channel 7 (LA affiliate) the event is a real budget buster.
Here are the wedding deets from People and Us Weekly:
– Fergie wore a fitted, white ruched, corseted wedding gown with a mesh tulle overlay, spaghetti straps and a long train designed by Dolce & Gabbana. The singer — whose veil was draped in millions of dollars worth of one-of-a-kind diamonds by H.Stern.
( I wonder if she will recycle those diamonds into a piece of jewelry or auction it on ebay for charity? Thinking green here and also potentially benefiting others significanlty less fortunate than Fergie)
– Also in Dolce: Duhamel, ten bridesmaids (black dresses) and groomsmen (black suits and white ties).
(Dolce & Gabbana got quite a lot of steam out of this one and will sure to be one of the most noted weddings — for sheer audacity and possibly excess– of 2009.)
– Wedding rings were H.Stern rings, with each band engraved with special personal messages by the bride and groom.
(Given the amount of publicity H Stern will get from this wedding, I wonder if there was a deal cut on the price of the jewelry and precious stones? )
– Fergie’s engagement ring had a round, 4-carat brilliant cut diamond set amid other diamonds, with colors ranging from white to cognac. A narrow colored diamond wedding band was designed to match. Duhamel’s ring was made of 18K white gold with a brush finish.
( I wonder if H Stern did the engagement ring as well? I will check this out.)
– Celebrity guests included new parents Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell, Mario Lopez, Wilmer Valderrama, Stacy Keibler, Kid Rock, Slash, Kate Hudson (Fergie’s costar in her upcoming movie Nine), the members of Black Eyed Peas including will.i.am, and Josh’s Las Vegas costars James Caan, Molly Sims and Vanessa Marcil.

While we are all very happy for the newlyweds, I wish someone could justify a veil studded with diamonds and having this event cost just so much money in this economy. I think that the value of the PR for the companies brought the cost down a chunk to the 1.5 million dollars but this one rivals the Star Jones debacle.

Jewelry is always considered to be a great asset by many people and no matter how elegant an outfit may be, it does not look complete without some piece of jewelry.
Fergie and Josh have worked for their money and deserved to be able to spend it without being sent on a guilt trip!
And Fergie has done a lot for AIDs research with Viva Glam and Josh also has done many charity events.
Geeze stop with the guilt stuff!
They are not hurting anyone.
