One of the most frequent questions that I get from people is how to get the picture perfect hair seen in magazines and what products to use to achieve it. Doesn’t matter if it’s a curly look, hair color or just a really different “runway” look that someone saw in a tabloid or on TV, it’s definitely a question that has to be asked and answered by the pro or magazine for which it was done. Typically that’s a time sensitive process since the magazine could have been shot 2 weeks ago (for a weekly) or it could have been done 4 months ago for a monthly.
David Stanko answers how to get hair in prime condition for a tweak on the hair color and that’s with a consultation and a salon pre-color treatment– called Redken Chemistry
How to get perfect shiny hair!
There are also basic questions that get asked like how to get your hair in great condition while color hair or even more basic– how to achieve the perfect blow-out. . Rodney Cutler, Cutler Salons in NYC (and you can find podcasts and videos with Rodney on this blog if you hit the SEARCH engine on the left).
Rodney makes recommendations on what products to use to keep your hair in great shape and also how to achieve a blow-out resulting in straight hair.
1) Color Extend Shampoo & Conditioner and even Rich Recovery Deep Treatment should you need it for your hair type.
The styling process begins with Cutler using Blown Away (about a dime size — rub in hands to warm and spread it out– and raked through hair). The gel based product will go a long way to controlling hair.
The actual blow-dry tips Rodney gives you are spot-on and ones that I am going to try tomorrow. While he doesn’t mention it, the product in the green bottle that he sprays into the hair is a Body-ful Weightlifter, a root boost spray to create lift and some volume.
Another hero product that works amazingly well is the OutShine which provides frizz control, shine and also smoothness. Less is more with this product!!
Thanks to Redken for the great video. They have a number of instructional videos for consumers– check them out and stay on top of the tips and techniques. They are wonderfully helpful.
