Nancy Lichtenstein really outdid herself this NYFW. She went to Encore (thank you Matt Myerson) for an amazing run through his suite of fashions. Now if we can just get ME there — since I have worked with him for eons. What a great guy and great style sense too. Nancy ate it up too!
Sustainable luxury that’s good value? If those are you goals in fashion, they may seem too contradictory to be possible, but we did find one line at New York Fashion Week which hits all those marks! Zöe Twitt, a young designer who’s originally from Australia, has come up with a capsule collection of stylish, versatile pieces in a natural luxury knit that mix and match to make a complete wardrobe.
Entire Collection. (lots of luck seeing this close up!! Email me for the original photo)
This is not the first time this idea has been tried but it is the first time it’s been done really well! Zöe’s pieces are youthful and fashion-forward, and unlike similar lines with this mission, they don’t look like someone raided a Capezio outlet. They have sex appeal, they’re figure flattering, and they’re quality construction.
Most of them come with zippers that literally change the line of the clothing, making it two or more pieces in one, but it’s not gimmicky, it’s organic. So is the fabric, a custom blend of wool/silk jersey imported from Italy. (I got to feel it myself and the only way to describe it is creamy.)
The pieces are lightweight and layerable, making them perfect for fall and winter in warmer climates–on cool days you can layer them for warmth, and on sunny days wear them alone.
My favorites are:
The reversible balloon back dress, which can be worn both forwards or backwards (reminds me of the time Stevie and I went to a sample sale and I liked the piece she was trying on more after she accidentally put it on backwards!) to suit your individual figure;
Balloon Back Dress
The zipper spine back tee, a sheer piece which is long enough to be worn as a tunic; the zipper “spine” adds interest and versatility, because you can wear it off the shoulders if you unzip it a bit, or wear it backwards and slightly unzipped if you want to spotlight your cleavage.
Zipper back Spine Tee. (sounds and looks yummy huh!)
The triangle zipper tank, which depending on whether you wear it zipped or unzipped actually looks like two completely different pieces.

These pieces are not inexpensive, but in the current economy, the question should not be “can I afford to buy quality versatile pieces?” but “can I afford not to?” For more information, visit www.zoetwit.com.
Thanks to Nancy for sussing out this fabulous line and showing us the best of the pieces. Despite the $$, I am sure I am going to be jonesing for something from that line. I can see me in something there. (just not exactly what).
