Take an fall down the rabbit hole as surrealism comes to life at Alice in Wonderland’s Live Art Party at Local Collection in the Glendale Galleria (upper level adjacent to Nordstrom), Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 7pm – 9pm.
Five distinguished contemporary artists will create portraits of live models that will be dressed with pop elements from the infamous Alice in Wonderland characters at the opening reception and exhibition of the Live Art Party. In addition an artist will be featured in JCPenney Court painting with a live model at 4pm.
Local Collection, Glendale’s newest hub for designer trendsetters, teams up with Richard Kalisher, publisher of the American Contemporary Art magazine on this unique exhibition. Headlining the exhibition are notable artists in Los Angeles:
Yuki Miyazaki,
Melissa Kojima*,
Prince Praise,
Frijol Boy and
Romina Gonzales
taking center stage in the Local Collection storefront windows. Their paintings will be on display from March 18 – 28.
*Melissa Kojima produced the custom illustration for the Live Art Party. The design is being used on the event invitation and on all signage.
The backdrop of the store windows will reflect the surrealism of the new Alice in Wonderland movie featuring vibrantly colored giant roses, oversized twigs and mushrooms, and moss-like greenery along with unique details from Alice’s adventure.
Invited guests and shoppers will enter into the store through a decorated garden trellis while a life-size decorative teapot will anchor the pathway. Guests wil observe the live artists at work while sipping on tea and enjoying mouth-watering treats worthy of inclusion at the Mad Hatter’s famous tea party — mousse filled chocolate tea cups, flower cupcakes and fruit tarts. Refreshments and Valet Parking at Nordstrom are complimentary.
