Nancy Lichtenstein is back and she and I were emailing, texting and talking via phone last night about the Oscars. What photos to get; who did it right, who did it wrong. All the stuff girls always talk about on this. We came up with a fast way of giving you some tips on who did it right, wrong and “get a new stylist” sort of list of Oscar’s Red Carpet fashions for men and women!! ( Nancy is bolded, I am not)
While we’re getting ready for the next round of Celebrity Style Slam, here are the first annual LA-Story Oscars Fashion Awards:
Most Improved
Sigourney Weaver—
NL: we’ve criticized her for looking frumpy on other runways but this gown is figure-flattering and nicely accessorized, her hair and makeup are perfect, and the style suits her Avatar character.
SW: All I can say is wow!! Sigourney stepped up to the plate and actually looks every inch the star in a very classic gown and we applaud her for going the distance!!
Most Likely to Be Eaten Alive by Her Dress
Vera Farmiga—
NL: The giant ruffles on this gown make it look like she was attacked by an enormous crumpled oyster.
SW: I personally thought maybe she had spent so much time in airports that she had acquired a new type of fungus– pink, frilly and about to morph her into a living, talking mushroom.
Best Dressed Woman of a Certain Age
>
NL:
Helen Mirren always looks well put-together, but she was outstanding at the Oscars in a figure-flattering long grey gown (a color most women can’t wear, so she gets a standing ovation for pulling it off).
SW: Helen Mirren really does a great job and if she’s using the same stylist that she was a year ago, she’s got a winner here. I love the way she looks: elegant, simple, stunning!
Least Likely to Act His Age
NL: Robert Downey, Jr. looks like an overgrown teenager in a bowtie and Converse sneakers. Susan Downey looks especially elegant in a cream and black striped gown, but it makes you wonder if their next project together will be a remake of Peter Pan.
SW: Robert Downey Jr. — love him to death and he looks gorgeously adorable when he’s dressed up like he was for the Golden Globes (or in Sherlock Holmes). While I love the personality exhibited here, it’s not suitable for the OSCARS!!. C’mon Robbie, get with the program. I was really looking forward to seeing you look super-gorge.. and you look fun, funny and goofy.
Best Dressed Teenager at the Oscars
NL: Kristen Stewart had a serious glam factor last night, especially when compared to her New Moon costar, Taylor Lautner, whose tux looked like he was growing out of it as we watched (neat trick in the movie, not so much on live TV).
SW: I think Stewart looks amazing and whoever is her stylist chose a great dress. (wish she had more jewelry though). She looks amazing. Can’t even tell she’s a teenager.
Best Dressed Former Teen Star Who We Kind of Forgot About Until She Showed Up Last Night
NL: What has Molly Ringwald been doing the past 20 years, anyway? Whatever it is, she looks great, although the weird overgrown 80’s squiggle jewelry could have been improved upon.
SW: I could not believe this was Molly Ringwald and she looks like she’s barely 10 years older than those movies. Stunning in purple (forget the pink), she’s got her personal style nailed down. Molly is smoking haute.
