Barbra Horowitz Talks About Enlightened Shoes: Olsenhaus.

LA eco-friendly stylist Barbra Horowitz is no stranger to this blog– and not to me at all! We talk enough on the phone (sometimes for 60 mins at a pop) but we have never met. I have seen her on videos and she has seen me. Would be nice to meet up in real life but that’s LA for you.

This lady is super-savvy on how to work your closet rather than have you shop except for essentials. Her videos are hot stuff when it comes to re-working pieces in your wardrobe that don’t work, don’t fit, are stained and she teaches you how to look at pieces with a new eye to reconfigure those items via tailoring, reconstruction and even dying the items. However not everything can be recycled, revamped and reconstructed.

Shoes fit into the category of hard to re-do and are essentially one of those essentials that you should buy. Enlightened shoes create conscious feet

Each person and or company strives to be environmentally friendly and 100% cruelty free. Easier to put your shirt and shoes on? Fact- The livestock/ leather industry is the largest contributor to global warming, land devastation and environmental pollution.

Fact-From start to finish the amount of energy to create a leather hide is 20 times greater than the production of a synthetic material.

Leaving dietary practices out of this conversation our external vanity is supporting the biggest crimes to our livestock and our environment simultaeneously. That’s some super size multi-tasking.

We live in sunny California the land of LA LA where the angels sleep. When do we ever need to wear leather? Oh that’s right,a little thing called rock n roll bathes and liquifies us in “must wear leather” to be cool. Poo poing anything called pleather or PVC a.k.a alternative leather.

Gone are the days of Guns and Roses instead leading the pack are Vegan celebrity philantrhopists: Alicia Silverstone Ellen Degeneres and uber chic shoe designer Elizabeth Olsen of OlsenHaus.

Actually, Olsen lives in New York but Los Feliz’s Melissa Ritchie owner of Atmosphere located on hipster Vermont, vegan as well carries the 100% non animal material/ environmentally friendly on trend shoe line.

Olsen’s concept is to showcase materials that are clever, sophisticated while promoting consciousness and education. It’s that clever and sophisticated styling that grabbed my attention one day puling for a client. I have never quite seen such originality in concept coupled with an enlightening make your heart expand mission statement.

Olsenhaus only uses alternative sustainable renewable plant based and man made materials such as ultra suede, organic cotton, canvas, nylon, velvet, linen, cork coupled with a synthetic eco lining. Soles are a composite made of rubber and glues are rubber based and vegan. Paint is vegan and non toxic.

If that didn’t have you at “Hello” Olsenhaus uses synthetic and plant based materials which account for far less pollution while using far less energy comparable to leather practices. Most synthetics used are flexible, breathable and biodegradable.
