Cirque Berzerk – A Modern Theatre des Vampires Gives the Devil His Due

As the final weekend for Cirque Berzerk in Los Angeles approaches, Style Coven predicts that LA literati and glitterati will be duly impressed by this latest spectacle offered up by the once fabled Burning Man performance troupe. Cirque Berzerk has grown up, out of the dusty fields of Black Rock, out of a circus tent and into the plush Nokia theater where this lavish “Cabaret in Hell” reminded us of what Anne Rice’s Theatre des Vampires should have been on the big screen.
Kevin Bourque, Cirque’s Devil/Ringmaster shines in the cast as the heir apparent to Tim Curry’s sensual Dr. Frank N. Furter with shades of Barnum and a dash of Jim Broadbent’s Ziegler from Moulin Rouge. The entire ensemble is sexy, dark and stellar against the backdrop of Hell’s red light district carnivale. This is not your grandmother’s circus, dear. But really, go to Hell… you’ll love it!
Amidst a parade of tumblers, aerialists, fire jugglers, dancers and the bluesy cabaret vocals of sirens Antonia Bath and Jessica Childress, a Faustian drama unfolds as a demure Woman in Red makes a pact with the Devil….
Where does that leave the “woman in red”? You should check it out on StyleCoven’s blog. (the link will take you to the site but do realize you might have to go back a few more pages before you find the story. It’s worth the hunt– or being hunted..
