Bonos in Long Beach is a fave hangout for me. You can often find me having an appetizer or small plate there along with a cocktail– outside if it’s sunny like today or inside if the sun or weather isn’t cooperating (meaning it might be sunny but the air is chill since we are close to the beach)
But if weather allows I am outside sitting at one of these tables sipping something interesting.
Recently I was at the restaurant having an appetizer:
Heritage Tomato Salad with fresh Burrata cheese
while someone else was much hungrier than I had this fabulous steak sandwich:
The drink partnering with the steak sandwich was Mama’s Little Yella Pill Craft beer and I had something that was the special of the day. It had no name– but the bartender/server told me what was in it and I had to have one!! There’s no photo since it was virtually clear except for mint leaves that could be muddled if you wanted that taste.
The bartender–Ben– and I came up with Ben’s Summer Splash as the name for this nice mix because it’s cooling, relaxing and fun.
Pinot Grigio poured over ice in a tall glass
1.5 oz St. Germaine elderflower liqueur.
Splash of soda or seltzer as a float
Generous lime squeeze and mint garnish.
Tall, lush and refreshing.
Josh also had another drink that he had made recently that sounds crazy but having had a riff on this recipe, it really does work.
Frozen raspberry lemonade or cherry limeade (by the can — 1 can)
Citrus Vodka (though any vodka will do. You could use a cherry or raspberry or even lemon vodka)– 1 frozen juice can full
Budweiser Light with Lime beer x 4
Pour all of this into a blender and fire it up!
It whips up a tasty margarita-like drink that’s fun, flavorful and easy to do.
Suggestion: buy lots of the frozen juices. this is a fun drink!!

If you are heading towards the OC down the 405, do make a pitstop for this place. Italian food with a contemporary twist plus other types of dishes and great appetizers. Happy Hour during the week has killer bargains!!
