Courtesy of a friend in Miami, Florida, this seems to be the PERFECT drink for these days–
If you want to call it Hurricane Sandy, get some liquid chocolate or expresso and mix it with granulated sugar and rim the glass with what would be muddy colored “sand”
Here are 3 images from sociallysuperlative.com who created three versions of a Hurricane in honor of Hurricane Irene. Personally I think all three could go into one glass considering this is a SUPER STORM.
For those of you who asked, here is the real recipe for a Hurricane Cocktail (not that vile powdered mix):
3 oz gold rum (you can go 50-50 silver & gold, or all silver if that’s all you have)
(for those not hit by the storm, get the gold!)¼ oz cherry liqueur (or natural cherry syrup)
1 oz fresh lime juice
¼ cup passion fruit juice, or 1 T passion fruit syrup
1 oz simple syrup
1 teaspoon grenadine
Shake and serve in a ta-a-all glass filled with cracked ice. Repeat as needed.
For all those people out there who are dealing with the Super Storm Sandy.. we wish you well and lift a glass in salute. Hope you can do the same.
