If you remember Sorel or Jack from Brooklyn from the Fourth of July posts, good for you! If you don’t, then please listen up– because this is a spirit you should be trying out. It’s highly unusual, very tasty and plays nicely with other spirits.
Also here’s another reason why to buy a bottle of this spirit. The Jack from Brooklyn warehouse suffered a lot of damage from “Sandy” and they lost a lot of inventory-stuff that they needed to fulfill orders and carry into the new year. They could use some support. I wouldn’t include this spirit if it wasn’t top notch and the recipe below (and the ones to come for the 12 Drinks of Christmas) will blow your tastebuds away.
Hot Buttered Sorel
1 tsp butter
1 tbsp brown sugar
4 oz Sorel
1 oz Krakken Spiced Rum
Heat butter in saucepan, stir in sugar and keep stirring till it’s smoothly mixed with the butter.
If you want a more caramelized taste, try waiting till it’s a bit browned and starting to turn a bit syrupy– but KEEP STIRRING and don’t let it burn!
Pour into mug.
Heat Sorel, add to mug.
Top with rum, stir to blend.
Top with orange zest and sprinkled cinnamon. (Allspice is good as well as Nutmeg too!)
Have mouth orgasms.
This is a sinful drink. Deceptive in its taste and ingredients, it sneaks up on you with the sweet/spice/rum + vodka blend. The mouth-feel will be intoxicating. You will be too.
