Fashion Designer Karen Starr Talks About How to Spot Authentic Designer Bags!

Fashion Designer Karen Starr and I go way back (many years). What I loved about her designs is that she never got stuck in one niche. She was great in several sectors. She was particularly good at spotting knock-offs and when denim was super white-hot and copycat denim was the rage, she and I would talk about it and how to spot fakes vs the real deal.

Karen and I were talking recently about the profileration of high end designer bags being counterfeit– particularly on How does one tell when one has been ripped off? How does one tell if the bag is authentic? Karen is guest-posting here on this very topic– because a podcast would be a very lengthy discussion!

We are featuring a range of bags currently on Ebay but also available on

So, what to do with that tax check you just got? How about a little shopping. You know you deserve it! You also know that you do not want what everyone else has. Going out with the same authentic clone bag everyone else has. Well, it’s time to shake things up and step out of your comfort zone.

Are you someone that loves clutches but wishes they had straps and multiple uses? Say no more. Lanvin’s Sac Daddy is the perfect 3-in-1 bag.

Classic black calfskin surrounds this bag that you can use as a clutch, shoulder bag and a cross body. This bag is wonderful for dressy nights out or casual days strolling around. The interior has gold satin with jacquard “Lanvin” spread out. Plenty of pockets inside and out. Easy lock close in the front. Sold out in Europe, this bag brand new is $2350 USD. It’s listed on sale here at $1550 and it’s authentic!

Maybe you want a bag that has a pop of color. But not just any color. How about blue petrole?

Lanvin did it with this color on their Happy Medium bag. The calf skin leather is super soft and sports decorative stitching that will make heads turn and take notice. This bag brand new in this color is a rarity and would generally cost a mere $2250. Catch it on a great sale at $1550!

Are you a Louis lover? How about an exotic Vuitton that was only available to VIP’s when it was released in very limited editions? Believe it or not, now you can get your hands on one.

The Louis Vuitton Alligator Gracie in green. This work of art, as many fashion editors called it, is made of monogrammed velvet and luxuriously trimmed in fine alligator. The trompe l’oeil hardware polishes off the visually alluring design. The interior is all leather also in green. Whether you are a collector or lover of all things Vuitton, this is your must have bag. The green color is very rare and brand new it cost $5200. How would you like to pick this up for only $2100 on sale? Barely used and in pristine condition. Get it now because you might never have the opportunity again.

Lastly, the crème de la crème. The ultimate arm candy. A beautiful, authentic Hermes Birkin 35cm in rare Chevre with gold hardware.

Barely used since 1996. The rare chevre (goat) is not like what is being released by Hermes now. Soft leather that has a slight glisten when the light hits it. Virtually scratch proof! Brand new this bag’s price was $28,500. I found it here listed for $22,750. Guess what, it is now on sale for $18,750. Hermes makes all of their bags by hand and it takes the craftsperson 48 hours to create this bag in France. This bag is gorgeous and rumor has it the owner would work out a layaway plan if paid off in 4 months or under.

There you have it. 4 different high end, authentic French designer bags that will work with any look, any time of day. Don’t blend in ladies! Dare to go outside the box and show your individual style and great taste!

Thanks to Karen Starr for her expertise on selecting these bags. We were trying to run this piece before Mother’s Day but we had trouble getting even this small number of bags verified as authentic bags. It’s not easy and we take the time to do things right particularly when you are looking at 4 and 5 digit price tags
