Time Magazine coined Hornaday “Bob Fosse’s punk-rock younger brother and heir apparent to the next wave of American musicals,” and the New York Post calls Hornaday “an American musical genius,” with Hornaday gaining international acclaim choreographing landmark the feature films:
· FLASHDANCE, the international smash that re-established the movie musical as a viable convention for modern audiences
· Warren Beatty’s DICK TRACY which Hornaday staged the iconic musical comedy numbers, pairing Madonna and Al Pacino
· CAPTAIN EO, The groundbreaking 3D film starring Michael Jackson, Directed by Francis Ford Coppola and produced by George Lucas, the film appears at Disney theme parks worldwide
· Director Richard Attenbourough’s film adaptation of the longest running Broadway show in history A CHORUS LINE
In the music world, Hornaday conceived and directed world tours for artists including Madonna, Paul McCartney, Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus and Reba McEntire. He directed critically acclaimed Madonna’s The Girlie Show World Tour, marking his third collaboration with Madonna.
Paul McCartney’s Back in the U.S.A. World Tour reunited Hornaday with McCartney since directing his SAY SAY SAY music video collaboration with Michael Jackson, and was the first of four world tours he directed for the artist. When Miley Cyrus, The Backstreet Boys, Mariah Carey, Lionel Richie and Barry Manilow need a tour director and choreographer, Hornaday is who they always choose.
As a film director, he has worked with John Travolta, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Heather Graham along with a slew of other actors. Jeffrey Hornaday has won a Director’s Guild of America Award, and now returns with a classic in the making: Disney’s TEEN BEACH MOVIE.
TEEN BEACH MOVIE is this summer’s Disney Channel event movie, claiming the mantle held by High School Musical. The movie stars Maia Mitchell (ABC Family’s The Fosters) as surfer girl ‘McKenzie,’ and Ross Lynch (Austin & Ally) as her boyfriend ‘Brady’. She’s headed for boarding school, but not before they ride one last wave, which somehow sends them headlong into their favorite early ’60s surfer movie, Wet Side Story, where bikers and surfers battle for control of a local hangout. Backed by 50’s and 60’s costumes and songs, the couple’s presence interrupts Wet’s star-crossed plot.
Disney’s Teen Beach Movie drops 7/30 on DVD– BUY IT and watch it. Also available for streaming on the Disney Channel.
