San Diego’s most anticipated summer event the opening races at the the Del Mar Racetrack, is famous for its celebrity appeal, fashion-forward crowd and glamorous Kentucky Derby-esque vibe.
Offering far more than just Thoroughbred racing, the track offers Old Hollywood allure, beautiful people, elaborate hats and couture dresses. The rich and famous have been frequenting Del Mar since Bing Crosby first opened the seaside track in 1937, and celebrities like Lucille Ball, Gwen Stefani and Uma Thurman have been known to visit Del Mar over its more than 75-year history.
While watching the horses get ready to run the race, it’s fun to scout around and do some fashion trend-spotting as well as sip fun cocktails!!
The track’s Opening Day is Wednesday, July 17, and it’s expected to draw more than 47,000 attendees dressed to the nines.
The thrill of being dressed up and seeing others equally dressed up is almost as thrilling as watching a horse cross the finish line!!
Saturday, August 24 – Haute As Ever (a play off Del Mar’s “Cool As Ever” slogan) is a fashion and social media event expected to be the largest Instagram meetup on the West Coast. With a 1940s pinup theme, fashion show, a lookbook from BCBGeneration and more, attendees will get their fill of throwback style.
Sunday, August 25 – Del Mar’s richest and most prestigious race, the $1 Million TVG Pacific Classic, draws the second largest crowd of the year, dressed up in their finest a la Opening Day.
Order tickets NOW and start putting together your outfits. Also there are some special “days” to make note of that make it easier for you to attend — but dress up as much as possible.
