Guest Blogger Amanda Green of SkincareHQ.org has some great tips on how to do TIGHTLINING.. a special way of lining your eyes.
If you’re on the hunt for thicker, fuller lashes, tightlining is the makeup technique you have to try! Also known as “invisible eyeliner,” tightlining is great way to add definition to your eyes without looking obvious. With our tips and tricks, you’ll be mastering this subtle technique in no time. Read on to find out how!
WHAT IS TIGHTLINING?
Traditional eye lining involves applying liner above the lash line on the lid. By contrast, tightlining involves applying liner to the waterline. You start by working product from underneath your lashes instead of by tracing a line on top.
The benefits to your look are enormous. Keep reading to find out why tightlining might be for you.
WHY SHOULD I TRY IT?
As a makeup technique, tightlining makes lashes appear longer and fuller. It’s better than a lash-enhancing serum and beats the promises of thickening mascara. It can even make your eyes look bigger!
Convinced? Read on to find out our tightlining tricks.
TIPS FOR TIGHTLINING
You can use a liquid eye liner, a pencil eyeliner or an angled brush dipped in gel liner to achieve this look.
1.) Wash your hands before you gently pull the lid up by the lashes. See the gaps in between your lashes? That’s what tightlining will fix.
2.) Pat product into the water line, starting from the outside part of your eye and working in. if you’re using liquid liner or a pencil, dab the liner into between individual lashes as close to the root as possible. If you’re using a flat angled brush, wiggle it into the roots from underneath your lash line.
3.) Repeat on your bottom lashes if you want a more intense makeup look. Add a coat of mascara if desired!
You’re finished! However, mistakes are possible even with this easy technique. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Keep going to find out our warnings.
WHAT TO AVOID
Because you’ll be putting your fingers near your eyes and applying liner to the waterline, you must make sure that your hands and your products are clean! Wash hands with an antibacterial soap. Sanitize your eye liners, too: if you’re using a pencil, sharpening is an easy way to avoid infection. A sanitizing mist or a rub down with 70% rubbing alcohol are also options for pencils and brushes. Let your tools dry before tightlining.
Another mishap to avoid? Products that won’t stay put! With tightlining, eye liner that lasts all day is a must. Check out the products we recommend for tightlining by reading on!
PRODUCTS TO USE
If you prefer liquid liner, Two Faced 3 Way Lash Lining Tool is unbelievably easy to use when tightlining – it makes filling in the gaps between your lashes a cinch.
If you plan to use a flat angled brush to tightline your eyes, dip it into Laura Mercier’s Tightline Cake Eye Liner. This long-lasting product won’t fade throughout the day.
For girls who love pencils, Buxom Insider Eyeliner is designed for the inner rim and waterline of your eyes. It won’t irritate your eyes but it will give them dramatic definition.
What else will you need to complete your look? Read on.
PERFECTING THE LOOK
A subtly defined eye goes best with clear skin and a bright lip color. Apply a BB cream or a CC cream to your skin for a natural look with enough coverage to hide any flaws. Tightlining gives you lashes full and thick enough that a swipe of mascara should be enough to complete your eyes. Add lipstick in your favorite shade, and you’ll be sure to get noticed!
