LA Fashion Week just is wrapping up as I type this post. It’s been an amazing run through the shows. While I was busy writing, I sent colleague/blogger Marie Bargas to attend a couple of shows! The first you get to hear about is Sue Wong’s AMAZING and super-gorgeous runway show in downtown LA!! Killer doesn’t begin to describe what Marie and actress Jaira Valenti (her partner in crime for the evening) saw!
Fueled by the excitement over the tantalizing fashions of Baz Luhrman’s visual masterpiece, “The Great Gatsby” Sue Wong’s recent fashion show appropriately entitled, “JAZZ BABIES” was a sumptuous fashion feast for the eyes. While most assuredly the ordinary woman would be remiss to don a Sue Wong dress without a svelte figure, the practicality of the collection pales in comparison to the high voltage glamour oozing from every single bead so delicately placed on each dress. Sales of Spanx should climb in connection to these designs which are motivation enough for a woman to lose an extra 20 pounds or die.
Janice Dickinson, Nadia Lanfranconi and Jaira Valenti.
The appearance of fashion icon Janice Dickinson alongside rising star Nadia Lanfranconi and newcomer Jaira Valenti was the icing on a cake already filled with the delicious like of actresses Kelly Hu (CW’s Arrow, The Vampire Diaries), Breann Johnson (Red Wing), Sloane Avery (MTV’s Teen Wolf), Sarah Dumont (Don Jon, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Erin Cahill (ABC’s Body of Proof), Lindsay Seim (Insidious Chapter 2), and Kaili Thorne (CSI Miami).
The swinging “Jazz Babies” Spring 2014 Collection unveiled at the Cicada Club in LA. Certain to be on the fashion playlist for the coming season, the latest collection features a greatest hits of trends including polka dots in a variety of colors and iterations. Underscoring the collection’s core theme are intricately embroidered cocktail numbers and exquisitely draped floor length ball gowns that contrast solid skirts with bejeweled bodices fit for any special occasion. There are also a range of day-to-evening pieces in beautifully muted shades including pinks and lilacs, classic blacks and beiges, and more paparazzi-bait showstoppers.
Sue explains how the collection was inspired by the 1920s flappers or jazz babies as they were called:
“Before then, women were only ever portrayed as an extension of a husband or her parents. From the sparks of rebellion in the way they dressed and expressed themselves, those amazing women pioneered the kind of empowered attitudes and lives we have today.”
Sue cites as inspirations women like actress Marie Prevost who spanned a career of over a hundred films from silent to talkies, Paris sensation Josephine Baker, It Girl Clara Bow, film star and accomplished businesswoman Norma Talmadge, and Anita Loos who was an author, screenwriter and playwright of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which featured the flapper as the protagonist.
She adds, “They paved the way to a woman’s right to lead a truly independent life. They were strong, vibrant and fabulous!” – precisely the kind of words to describe the Sue Wong Spring 2014 Collection.
The evening’s primary sponsors included Prive for Hair, Mud Makeup Designory for Makeup, Leg Luxury for Hosiery and Vosges Chocolate.
Thankyou to Marie Bargas for her sensational write-up on Sue Wong’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection. More the delicious, it’s mesmerizing!
