This is part 5 of 5 in this series from Z Budapest. Each segment is written by Z. Budapest herself. Marie Bargas took the singular document and broke it into pieces that were “bite-sized” chunk of content for this series!
Thanks to Marie Bargas for this amazing series. Thank you Z. Budapest for writing it!
This is the post-script for the initial post (Post #1) from Z Budapest
As the awareness of our efforts for women grew. Joan managed to get us some funding and with that we started the very first Rape Hotline, which was then followed by others in all major cities across the United States.
Next, we organized the very first Los Angeles “Take Back the Night” march for women to take to the streets and give voice to their own empowerment to stop violence against women. This “Take Back the Night” march was gloriously attended; ten thousand women and men together marched through Hollywood chanting feminist slogans. We sang songs to the Goddess.
There was a crescent Moon. I will never forget it. I still have L.A. Mayor Bradley’s Declaration of Appreciation as a reminder of that march.
As I was walking with the women and men, I prayed to the rising Moon…
We all come from the Goddess
And to her we shall return,
Like a drop of rain
Flowing to the ocean.

Thanks to Z. Budapest for her kindness in sharing her story or rather Her-Story. What’s really interesting is that I have found a number of people who know Z. Budapest- not just in a distant author or class instructor way- but in a serious ” I know her!” sort of way.
Z. Budapest: You know you have changed many lives. Some have known it for quite some time. The rest of us know it now– and appreciate your efforts that benefited many people– both male and female!

take back the night is a great movement…worldwide, and supported by every woman I know who is aware of it.
What a cool person to get to know. I started reading her books about 20 years ago. The Grandmother of Time was my first..she is really a great author.
