In today’s society it seems everyone is chasing the next big thing, especially in fashion. Whether it’s the new Jordan’s, Prada slippers, or Louboutin’s, everyone wants a piece of top products. This is fine but what about those with a weird sense of style? The person marching to the beat of their own drum, while straying from the normal fashion market.Have no fear because Wonderfully Weird has arrived. The weekly blog posting various fashion items including: clothing, jewelry, shoes, and styling tips considered odd by others. My style is different from most because it focuses on funky, different, and classy pieces others tend to shy away from.

This week focuses on the couture fashion of Alaska. When people think of Alaska, the art of fashion doesn’t immediately come to mind. Fortunately for them, Alaska artists and designers are slowly becoming a force within this genre. The following pieces come from the company Indigenous Princess. According to their website, Indigenous Princess is the mother-daughter contemporary skin sewing team of Shaaxsaani and Mercedes. They are inspired by the richness and utility of traditional materials and strive to bring an artful expression that speaks to ancestry in a modern world. Far more than just fashion, each Indigenous Princess piece is an expression of culture. Using materials such as sealskin and sea otter root Shaaxsaani and Mercedes solidly in Southeast Alaska and the styles they create are relevant to their culture while speaking to contemporary fashion and art. One of the unique aspects of their work is that it bridges ancient to modern, Native to non-Native. Source: Indigenous Princess
