Thanks to the fabulous Marie P from IAmTHEMakeupJunkie.blogspot.com for this terrific review of a hot new palette from Clarins! Glad she is digging into the new things so that I can share it here with you. Plus this palette is available online as well as in stores. It’s featuring a very affordable price point for the product quality. So what are you waiting for? Read and buy!
Clarins The Essentials Eye Makeup Palette Collector Editionis a palette of 10 neutral eye shadows and a lovely brush in a cute little case. It also comes with a plastic overlay with eye pictures and a layout of where you can place the eye shadows. I wanted to dislike this palette but I absolutely adore it! This palette is exceptional and is much better than the Smashbox Full Exposure palette (which I have and although I have not reviewed I will attest to).
The eye shadows in this palette are made with mineral and plant extracts. The shadows are very pigmented. As you can see below, from the swatches, there is pigment even in the lightest of shadows. They are all in the beige, taupe and brown family, which is okay, and for those that want to stay neutral this is the palette for you. Neutrals are great for those days you want to define the eye and give it lift. Neutrals give such definition to any eye color, which is why so many companies come up with neutral palettes. Use any brown or taupe and you have a great way to make your eye pop.
(above from left: matte peach cream, shimmery champagne, shimmery rose bronze, matte chocolate, shimmery taupe, shimmery antique bronze, shimmery deep copper, satin taupe-bronze, satin coppery bronze and satin bronze)
Looks:
Look #1: Using the reddish shades, I used these colors to make the green in my eyes pop and my eyes look very defined. I used the matte chocolate in the crease, the shimmery deep chocolate in the outer 1/4 of the lid and to line under the eye. On the other 3/4 of the upper lid I used the sating coppery bronze shade and under the brow I used the shimmery rose bronze.
Look #2: This look is more neutral toned and makes the eyes more defined. I used the shimmery taupe in the crease to define it, then the satin taupe-bronze shade under that (in the V) to define the crease more, I used that same shade in the outer 1/4 of the upper lid and under the eye to really define the eye. On the lid I used the shimmery champagne to light up it up. Finally, under the brow I used the matte peach cream to blend out the shimmery taupe shade.
According to the website, this palette was created as part of Clarins’ initiative to minimize environmental impact, and features carefully-selected materials and reusable packaging. They have joined forces with Pur Project and are committed to planting 10,000 trees for medical or cosmetic use, which will help revive the Kuntanawa culture (in the Amazon).

These come out natural, and still pretty dramatic. It is a lovely contrast to the garage door bright colors on those eyelids of the past.
I’m quite a fan of clarins, though more normally of the face and body products, which are excellent quality. These look pretty
