Do you love Halloween? Great! Me too! What I don’t love is the crazy effort to get a costume. For those who have lots of imagination but a lot less buck$, here are some interesting costume ideas with LEGGS tights or sheer pantyhose in various colors!!
Sheer pantyhose in colors
Pick your favorite celebrity and channel her look with a glitzy sequined dress, a great faux bag and some sheer black tights!
Channel Kate Middleton and rock the latest British royalty look. Find a conservative dress and shoes along with a long brown wig and a boy baby doll to work the look even more!
Work your trenchcoat for an easy Halloween look. Become the ultimate “Corporate Fixer” wearing a tailored trench coat and black or grey L’eggs. Work a tailored suit or trench coat with grey or black L’eggs Sheer EnergySheer Tights to channel ABC’s Scandal. Make sure your hair is freshly done with a sleek look and chic but conservative makeup!
Flapper: A tiered, fringed dress and dark sheers make for a fun 20’s getup! If you can’t find a fringey dress, check out a drop-waist dress – a style widely available from this past spring/summer. Check out sale items because you can find sleeveless dresses on markdown OR head to a good vintage store. Accessories are crucial for this decade — so don’t forget a funky headband and a feathery boa. If you have a copy of the Great Gatsby from last year, you can borrow that to get ideas on how to wear your hair. Borrow a wig if you must. The look is big on lashes and red lipstick. The headband isn’t crucial but a boa would be a great touch along with t-strap shoes and great swingy earrings!
Opaque Tights
The Witching Hour: Good witch or bad witch, make this costume a statement with a great hat, lots of leg in sheer tights and a fun look from a Halloween retailer. Or if you want to rock the witch look from any Harry Potter movie, do check out the movie and get some great props to work this one.
Minnie Mouse:
Black opaque tights with a red and white polka dot dress make for an adorable Minnie costume. Don’t forget her mouse ears and red bow! Make sure you use opaque ones so that your skin doesn’t show. You might want to borrow some mouse ears if you know someone with a kid and a set of ears from a trip to a Disney park. The black tights pull off the look better than sheers.
Cruella DeVille:
While this could be done with sheer L’eggs, why not try the opaques in black and dot on lots of white spots with either thick poster paint or use white shoe polish that is water-based. This is a very fun outfit to put together and you can create it with some ingenuity and knowing people who have little girls who might love Cruella! Also that little cape can created with shoe polish and a faux fur cape! I know Cruella is wearing fishnets in the photo. She would also wear black tights too.
Blair from Gossip Girls: Get the high end Manhattan girl about town with a great suit and opaque tights. Think conservative style with luxe details. Check out vintage stores for jewelry, smart bag and great pumps.
You can find LEGGS tights and pantyhose at various mass merchandise stores, drugstores and even some larger supermarkets. Do get started sooner than later to work the kinks out of your costume. Enlist friends and family to lend you pieces that work! This is affordable fashion and it’s glam too at the same time.

Good tights that STAY UP are invaluable. More and more I’m using ones with a tummy control, not because I need it but simply so they stay in place properly!
The fishnets are the most fun, but the opaque are incredibly versatile…nice selection here.
