Because of my move, my Netflix list has gone almost dormant. Not really because my kid loves streaming videos. However I am exhausted and have at least 20 episodes of shows to watch on DVR. At this rate, I would be better doing a binge watch of the shows via DVD or Netflix and forget about the commercials. So while I am still trying to wrap up the things I have to watch ( I was sent 2 DVDS: GONE GIRL and a A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES), I am going to feature them plus more new ones!
Since there are numerous films out in the last 2-3 weeks, I am going to curate what I want to feature!
Gone Girl:
Stars: Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris |Director: David Fincher
Synopsis
With his wife’s disappearance having become the focus of an intense media circus, a man sees the spotlight turned on him when it’s suspected that he may not be innocent.
This is a really good movie.. often what I call a popcorn movie because you get so engrossed in it. I saw the Blu-ray combo pack and it’s a great value. If you haven’t seen this movie, I would suggest you see it on the Blu-ray disc. It also has an “Amazing Amy” book and a special director’s commentary. It’s well worth the money and would make a great gift for anyone who likes thrillers.

BOYHOOD
Stars: Ellar Coltrane, Lorelei Linklater, Patricia Arquette, Ethan Hawke. Directed by Richard Linklater
The featurette- 10 mins but well worth your time!
Synopsis
The joys and pitfalls of growing up are seen through the eyes of a child named Mason (Ellar Coltrane), his parents and his sister. Vignettes, filmed with the same cast over the course of 12 years, capture family meals, road trips, birthday parties, graduations and other important milestones. Songs from Coldplay, Arcade Fire and other artists capture the time period. .
This movie is like “slow cooking”, it takes a long time to make but worth it in the end in terms of consumption. This movie was made over a period of 12 years. I have to wonder what his editor got paid. No wonder it’s nominated for so many awards!
Where to buy: Amazon.com, BestBuy, Target, Walmart, KMart and other mass merchants!
Other movies you might want to check out include:
The Book of Life:
Fury (with Brad Pitt and a stellar cast!)
The Judge (starring Robert Duvall (nominated) and Robert Downey Jr.)
Upcoming
John Wik (starring Keanu Reeves) (Feb)
I am a huge fan of Keanu Reeves and this specific film genre. Put them together and it gets my attention every time!
Hope you find something good to watch. I didn’t see all this films. I did see a few. Gone Girl was a winner and I think that Walking Among the Tombstones is an acquired taste. If you liked any of Liam Neeson’s recent films, you will probably like this one!
