ISSE Long Beach is the kick-off event for every year. Professional Beauty Association (PBA) has a series of these events every year. The Long Beach Expo is the largest and best attended pro-beauty event on the west coast. And it’s getting bigger every year… which means longer lines if you don’t order tickets in advance as well as a more crowded space as seen this past weekend at the Long Beach Convention Center. It was astonishing to see both the entire convention center and the Long Beach Arena full of exhibitors, competitions and eager guests to see what the hot products are for this year– and that’s what I am going to talk about over the next couple of ISSE blog posts. I was invited to attend as a part of a blogger contingent– and the first of its kind for this event. FUN(!)… Busy(!!) and Crazy Great (!!!) I haven’t seen innovation of this caliber in this kind of event in a long time. So I was eager and very glad to be part of it!

The approach for this blogger group was to give them some time to explore the floor but also time set aside for them to meet with new brands or brands launching new initiatives. This was the part that I most loved about the event since it took ISSE to an entirely different level and got me thinking about products– which is something I like. I go to these events looking for new brands, products and innovation. This is the first time that I ever felt like I had a road map to the really new and unique lines. Some are established lines and others are brand new — as recent as 6 months old. Most of these lines were brand new to me and I loved learning about them.

My schedule was packed even before I hit the show. Brands were contacting me to have them visit their booth at ISSE! It was crazy because typically I have not seen that kind of outreach where the brands specifically want to book some serious one-on-one time! .

ColorWow: I had the opportunity to meet with Gail, the CEO of ColorWow and a friend of hers. Amazing women who have so much going on and do it with aplomb and style. Key to know about this line is that it’s more than you think it is. Seriously great hair care line, the key product is the COLOR WOW palette which helps you to cover gray or dark hair growth if you are coloring or highlighting your hair (like me!). It’s a mineral-based product and it’s stunningly easy and very natural. Not one to rest on one key product, the ColorWow line also includes some great hair care and styling products that include shampoo, conditioner, brass-banishing mousse, styling cream, blow-dry cream (to cut blow-dry time) and “Pop’nLock Shellac”. Each product is fine-tuned to get the best performance for their hair. (I loved this line. I spent over 30 minutes talking to Gail!)
ERGO Brushes:This is a really amazing line of brushes! These brushes are for professional stylists to use and to sell to their clients. The ERGO people are adamant about clients learning how to use their brushes properly to get the best result. These brushes do wonderful things because they are ionic but with a carbon-coating on the bristles that will soften and flex when the hairdryer is used. The brushes are egonomically designed to be lighter and longer for easier handling especially by consumers. These brushes deliver amazing shine and fast drying. There are round and paddle brushes, flat iron and even a dryer to make the brand a one-stop shop.
Majic Beauty: is an ideal product for those who travel, who want to have prettier eye makeup but don’t have a lot of time to play with eye makeup. This is a one-stop easy-to-apply shadow kit that is AMAZING! For $5 or less, you can 4 pieces of the eye shadow color set of your choice– that’s 2 per eye. The applicator is shaped just like your eye. Apply your eyeliner first (and maybe an eye primer too). Then hold the eye makeup “plate” to the right or left eye at the base of the lashes. (There are 2 for the left eye and 2 for the right eye). Hold it against your eye lid and “rock it” back and forth to warm it on your lid then slide it off your eye toward your ear. Allow it to have full contact with the eyelid. Look at your coverage. If you feel you want more depth of color, use the same plates and do it again! It sounds complex but it’s so easy to learn. Wow, so many new items to try here. I am very curious about the gold mask. I do think gold has to be very good for the skin, the issue is how to apply it..very innovative.
Pam! The place is absolutely KILLER. The KollagenX masque is amazing (hoping to try one) .
