There are tons of subscription boxes out there and most are about getting “more, more, MORE!” Sometimes that’s a good thing but generally (as I talk to my friends about various box iterations), it’s wearing on them/the wallet to get stuff that they didn’t pick out. I have often done a “pay it forward” with boxes I have purchased, giving friends boxes of products that I didn’t want with an understanding that as I was paying it forward, I wanted them to do the same: share with friends and family those items they didn’t want or donate them to a shelter, mission or some organization that could use the items.
So the question to ask, is what would you think about a box that actually offered some interesting products but also engaged you with another aspect of the entire box– a way to give you items that also are part of activities and material that underscore certain key values: gratitude, kindness, simplicity, joy, hope, love, beauty, creativity and lots more! BetterBox (http://betterbox.life/) is the company/brand and they have joined the subscription box model sector and are launching July 1. It’s not just a “me too” subscription box but something uniquely different. Every month, the box’s theme would be about helping one create a better, happier, more appreciative life, a more positive outlook, empowerment, and a better self which results in a better life with the end being a better world.
Here’s the first good deed from me to you: if you make it to the end of this post, you get a code for $10 off your first BetterBox!
Here’s a quote from the BetterBox.com website:
At BetterBox, we know that our best and happiest lives don’t happen by accident. BetterBox is built on the principle that we can all build better lives—and a better world—through simple positive deeds, performed regularly. That’s why we take great care to assemble a monthly collection of life-affirming activities to help you live at your very best–and help others to do the same. We’ve worked hard to ensure each of our monthly themes achieves our dual goals of infusing meaning into the lives of our members while fitting easily into their busy modern schedules.
From the Betterbox website
BetterBox invited me to review a mini-box and test the BetterBox concept of doing deeds that deliver positive or “feel good” results. Betterbox.com sends each recipient emails with specific activities known as “deeds” (doing good deeds) using the products they sent in the box. I have been experiencing several days of these activities!
I am sharing images from the BetterBox.com website as well as my own photos (quality is vastly different) as they requested I show what I have done with my BetterBox.com products.

The box contents of the regular full-size “Gratitude” BetterBox package:
There are two photos of the contents– so that they could show the entire array of products:
As you can see there are a lot of products.
These are my “unboxing the products” photos!
This features the gratitude cards, gratitude rock and gratitude sticky notes.
This is the cookie, teabag, and bath salts.
I did get emails for 4 of 7 days. I haven’t finished my week yet so that’s why it’s partial But I am sharing a bit about the emails and also about what I did!
One of my assignments was to map my blessings
The Gratitude Map was a fold-out of pages that contained who/where/what circles which have {blank} qualities which inspire me to be grateful for:
these people (list), these places (list), and these things (list). Not hard to do but a thoughtful activity that required some real concentration on what one is grateful for.
I liked this activity because when I spent some time “listing” the people, gifts, things and places (tangible and intangible), I felt “richer. with a warmer heart. The lengthy list of people who have made a difference in my life– both in work and personally–made me happy that I had the chance to do this “deed”
Other “Deeds” sent to me included:
My Happy Place
My next good deed involved spending time at ” my happy place” (either a park with a pond, the beach or someplace really quiet that smells good– like a fragrance store or nursery for plants) I spent 30 + minutes walking through a nature center near where I lived and during the middle of the day, it was quieter than I expected. and was to leave the small gratitude stone for someone to find it. I left the little stone on a bench rather than just drop it somewhere and not know if someone would find it. (I need to think about where I am going next time. Glad I didn’t head to the beach!)
The next “Deed” was fun– Gratitude Wall
I grabbed my heart-shaped notes, and wrote 5 things that I was really grateful for and posted them on my monitor at my desk! (see above)
1) Everyone is well
2) Less is more (as in get rid of a couple things everytime I buy something!)
3) I have a backyard for the puppy and a veggie garden of fresh tomatoes (!!)
4) New space and Location that is quieter and actually has more privacy than my old place.
5) I am paying cash for more things to hold me more accountable
6 ) bonus- I eat ice cream ( anywhere from 2 tablespoons to a 1/2 cup of my favorite flavors. If it turns out I don’t like the flavor I am eating, I dump it because I don’t have to finish it!)
I do like these little tasks. It’s a great thing to do during a lunch break or if you have a bit of chill time, doing these activities will encourage a “perspective adjustment” that will give you a personal “reset” or new ways to see work, friends, relationships, family and life in general.
One of the best things about doing the activities with the products is that while you get a chance to play with the products, the experiential combination of new yummy products and the attitude adjustment is rather heady stuff after you have done it.It’s
The feel good aspect about myself is worth the price of the monthly box! I will say that it’s more “my thing” than what some people would do.
If you are seeking a product that gives you more than just “stuff”, BetterBox is a great subscription box that will not only present great products but products + meaning and insight.
