I am always up for trying out new foods, drinks and restaurants. It’s always interesting to test-drive new presentations. I have done it before with other brands who have sent me food products including meats, veggies, spices, beverages, snacks and desserts. It’s always interesting if only to educate my palate (and my brain) about new products as well as what I think is tasty. Sometimes I love everything but generally speaking I have my own personal tastes and I don’t like everything 100% – but then who does? What’s more interesting to me is to test drive different food presentations from organic to vegetarian, paleo, vegan, juicing and more.
I recently was introduced to the plant-based food company Veestro!
Mark and Monica (co-founders of Veestro) wanted to create a company that offered healthy plant-based food available for delivery! Here’s their story:
Growing up as brother and sister in a big family in Costa Rica we always loved the social aspect of sharing a great meal together. And we still look forward to those special times surrounded by friends and family and home-cooked food.
But much has changed since our childhood, where we ate lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and every meal was prepared from scratch. When we came to the United States for college, (we’re both UT Austin grads… go Longhorns!), we struggled to make healthy food choices. Fast food was quick and easy to eat between classes and studying, and we were young so we didn’t pay the ‘cost’ of such unhealthy food choices. But as we got older our on-the-go eating habits finally started to catch up with us.
We decided a whole-foods, plant-based diet was what we needed. But eating healthy is hard! Cooking a fresh meal takes time and the food you buy at the store often goes bad before you’ve had a chance to use it. And restaurants aren’t a realistic solution, because their meals are typically full of unknown ingredients and excess calories. You need healthy plant-based meals, ready to heat and eat.
We searched the supermarket for healthy prepared food options. A trip to the frozen food aisle was a real eye-opener. The backs of the frozen meal boxes were loaded with ingredients that we couldn’t pronounce. What was in these meals, exactly? If we couldn’t find frozen options that fit into our new commitment to whole foods and plant-based nutrition, then we would create them. Veestro was born!
Our first step was to join forces with a world-class gourmet chef who was born into a vegetarian family in Bolivia. He started working in vegetarian kitchens as a boy and has since perfected the art of plant-based dining. His culinary style is inspired by fresh cuisines from across the globe, yielding an eclectic set of flavorful vegan and vegetarian dishes.
Veestro’s meal plans have changed our lives, and we hope they’ll change yours too. You can eat our meals knowing that you’re enjoying all-natural, preservative-free food that’s high in protein and fiber, packed with nutrients and simply delicious — straight from your refrigerator or freezer. For us, Veestro is part of a movement that proves you don’t have to sacrifice taste and convenience for health-conscious, nutritious food. Enjoy!

Looking for Weight Loss or Just Eating Healthy:
Plant-based diets naturally promote weight loss, resulting in long-term sustainable weight loss. They are low in saturated fats, high in fiber, and reduce excess cholesterol intake. And while it is always possible to overeat on high-calorie foods, this is much harder to pull off on a plant-based diet. Fruits and vegetables contain mostly water, keeping you feeling full without consuming a lot of calories. They are also rich in antioxidants, plant sterols, phytochemicals, and potassium, which are all thought to reduce the risk of heart disease (just another perk of a plant-based diet!)
The point of Veestro is that 1) it saves you time, 2) saves you money sourcing- and buying – ingredients that create these plant-based meals. Whether or not you cook, you will save time using these meals. No recipes, no shopping, no calorie (or point) counting and it’s preservative and animal product-free!
Here is more information on Veestro which I find to be an interesting food mix and a worthy food delivery service worth trying!

This is an idea with legs. Many people try to eat a better diet, but waste a lot, and still don’t hit the mark the want to achieve. Services like this can be literally lifesavers.
It’s really an interesting way to see if going vegan is for you. I know it’s a journey but I also know what I like to eat. There’s a part 2 on this.. a food review!
we have a few things over here like this that I’ve trialed. Seems like a great idea…perhaps it will come here too
The biggest issue is that I approached it with the omnivore perspective that I am. I can’t lie — I eat meat (and enough of it and other animal products). I have no intention on giving it up. That said, things that I thought were a little bland aren’t bland to the vegans I know. They find the tastes more subtle. I think that at some point Veestro might go international. The biggest issue would be getting their recipes/food products particularly juices approved for distribution in various countries. Germany would be a tough sell I think
