I love summer. It’s my favorite time of year. I think I was blessed because I have been living in So. California all my life- which makes my obsession with summer all the more practical since that is the weather here in Los Angeles more than 60% of the year. This year (2015), we have had summer-like weather since mid-April. What this means is that Californians have a style that they cultivate that is could be called “summer style” fashion. While shorts, tanks and sandals are typical styles for summer fashion, it’s all in the details of how you put it together. Those details include clothing styles (shorts, pants, skirts, tops, dresses), shoes (sandals, booties and pumps). Color is key to put an outfit together so monochrome neutrals from head to toe work as well as splashy prints and solid tones that are jolts of color that spark a look. Handbags of some sort (clutches, cross-body, back-packs and hobos) and hats are pretty essential for So. Calif. living. The final icing on this fashion cake is definitely jewelry. It’s what shows your style from delicate necklaces to studs or boho fringy earrings to stacks of bangles. This style isn’t just for summer wear– you can wear it year-round because it’s reflective of the So. California lifestyle.
Disclosure: I was gifted a piece of jewelry that is the basis for this post. While I am most appreciative of the jewelry, it in no way affects my ability to be impartial since jewelry is about personal style.
What to look for?
Statement necklaces are what you might want to find- but, you do need to find the necklace that works for you and what you are wearing. Statement necklaces vary based on the clothing (and neckline) you are wearing.
Here’s an image of what I am talking about:
This is definitely a statement necklace. It doesn’t require any other necklaces to work. It does require some carefully chosen earrings too. (This necklace is just an example of a statement necklace. It is not from ONYX XOXO).
Rather than worry about statement necklaces, think about going to bracelets to make your statement. Bracelets can be mixed, matched and stacked to work with delicate necklaces, chunky earrings or big statement necklaces. Bracelets give you a lot of bang for your buck!
I was introduced ONYX XOXO by designer Danielle Carter. She creates great designs that work with swimwear to evening wear and everything in between. She makes an array of bracelets, necklaces and earrings that can’t be beat. From delicate to chunky to statement, there’s an option for any outfit you are putting together.
The piece I got was the “Summer Nights” bracelet.
This slim brass cuff is so beautiful in person. The photo doesn’t do it justice. The stones in the bracelet are opalite. There is a lot of detailed design around the stones. It’s lightweight and is easy to wear. It’s adjustable to your wrist size.
I love the filigree design around the two stones. It’s so pretty and very vintage in feel. I love the look of this bracelet. I often wear it with slim leather cuffs and/or very thin bangles that I stack up. “Summer Nights” offers a lot more style and ratchets up the style quotient of a stack of simpler bracelets.
I was not able to get information if this specific bracelet is still available. I did head to the ONYX XOXO website and saw many things out of stock. One of the great things about this line is that there are limited quantities so that you don’t see yourself coming and going on everyone else. What it does mean for you is that if you buy a few pieces as gifts for mom, sister, best friends or even that Secret Santa gift exchange you are participating in, you still will be giving a limited edition gift that the person will treasure because they will have one of the few pieces of that piece of jewelry.
This jewelry is very affordable. It’s a collectible line for you to check out every season (hopefully more than once a season)! I am a fan of this line and am hunting down some things missing from my collection.
Disclosure: I was gifted this bracelet so that I could review it. While I appreciate the gift, it doesn’t impair my ability to talk about the style and fashion of this line and of this piece without bias. Style in terms of jewelry is highly personal. They just hit it out of the ballpark with this bracelet … and lots of other pieces that are equally as universally wearable from the ONYX XOXO line.

The Summer Nights bracelet works with any kind of outfit. It is elegant, but not overstated. The bold necklace needs a certain kind of time and place to work for me, but in LA it would be more at home.
I’m not so sure I could pull off that bold (to say the least) necklace, but I definitely do love that bracelet!
With the right outfit and attitude, you could definitely pull off the bold necklace. I have bigger bolder ones than that one I featured!
