It’s the holidays and I know how they are often hard to juggle work, everyday life with all the additional events that you should do, you want to do because it’s fun and then deal with getting ready for a holiday. The #overwhelm factor here is huge!
Enter S.O.S Expert Shawnee Nizami— an organizer whose clients sing her praises about how much they like working with Shawnee as well as getting through the dreaded tasks of personal and household organizing. Shawnee is guest blogging and she shares her idea about being organized = happier, less stressful holidays! Getting organized is as much about planning and attitude as it is actually about physically getting to the point of “no stress”.
It’s that time of the year…the holidays! I love this time of the year with that magical feeling everywhere you turn: in the stores, on the streets… literally, everywhere! It’s the time for friends and family to come together and spread the joy.
However, it can also be a very stressful time, trying to figure out the right gift, what to cook, are there enough decorations on the tree… and the list goes on. I always remind people to remember to take some time for yourself as well–even 10 minutes to decompress will recharge you.
There are things we can do ahead of time to relieve the chaos leading up to the day of the event too. Make a list of all the people you need to buy gifts for. Look out for sales because you know everyone will be having special deals and you don’t want to miss out on that. If you have a large family, like I do, buy something small for everyone and one gift for the family, i.e.…game or puzzle– something fun they can do together. Game day is a great way to bring friends and family together. Buy 10-12 of the same item for hostess gifts and remember to keep it generic. Remember your neighbors, and don’t forget the service people that have taken care of you over the year. Big or small, it’s really the thought that counts.
Gather all your wrapping tools: paper, ribbons, boxes, etc. This is the time to get creative. Try to give it a personal touch. If possible, make it unique. The key is to have fun with it. Trust me, when that special person receives your gift, they will remember it.
No holiday is complete without food. Whether it’s a cocktail party or a sit-down dinner, food is always a part of any gathering. I personally enjoy party planning along with cooking, The key is to be organized when gatherings are bringing people together. Plan a menu and grocery list beforehand and make certain food 2-3 days before the event rush. Get your friends and family involved in the preparation of the meal too. There’s nothing like the sound of laughter, music, and great company to make the holiday festive. Have fun! Take the time and enjoy this celebration!
