We all want to have glowing skin before we start putting makeup on. I know that illuminators and glowy primers are great. It’s nice to use those as icing on the cake (or strobing or whatever,), but those glowy illuminators shouldn’t be thought of as the basis for giving you great looking skin. It’s too easy to put too much of that stuff on and wind up looking faux/fake and maybe a little plastic. There are other things you can use that are actually healthy for you to take- mixes of vitamins, minerals with a little collagen to give your skin the boost it needs.
I was given some new products to try that are supposed to help you achieve that glowing skin along with helping to balance skin types and help improve skin tone. Vitamins and minerals — even trace minerals– do make a difference in your skin. It’s not going to make up for damage from poor eating habits, excessive caffeine and/or alcohol or lack of sleep but it can make what you do have, look better!
Disclosure:
I received samples of these products for me to review. The samples have no affect or bearing on the outcome of my review. My opinions are my own and I am a firm believer in “your mileage may vary”. In other words, what works for me doesn’t mean it will work for you and vice versa. However I try to sort out the best from the rest.
I received two products from NeoCell, a manufacturer of products that are considered beauty supplements.
These beauty supplements– one capsules and the other a powder to be mixed in water- are meant to show results in about 3-4 weeks. How compliant or dedicatd to taking pills or mixing up and drinking a beverage is the key to success with any supplement regimen. If you don’t do it, you won’t see any results.
DermMatrix
DermMatrix is a powder supplement that is a skin-strengthening, fast dissolving collagen powder designed to strengthen skin from the inside out. Derma Matrix features the company’s award-winning BioActive NeoCell Collagen™.
A clinical study of BioActive NeoCell Collagen found that 92% of users had increased hydration and 65% experienced firmer and softer skin.
Derma Matrix comes in both a jar and stick packs, a first for collagen. This makes a great on-the-go option that can be added to a water bottle. A jar of Derma Matrix retails for $24.95.
REVIEW:
I like beauty supplements. That said, I am not often compliant. It’s hard for me to remember to mix up a drink. Drinks aren’t always my favorite and taste is key to getting me to even mix it up. The next step is to drink it.
The flavor was ok. I need to find something to add into it to make it taste a bit more natural. I don’t drink powdered material well and if I don’t shake it up well, I will leave it in the bottle. I am not a natural shake it up powder girl. That’s not me. However, when I did drink it, I started to see results. I was on it for almost 2 weeks and I did notice that my skin was not so dry or flaky. It was starting to look good. Now that I am writing this, I am thinking I should revisit the container and start it up again. The holidays (and a nasty illness) weren’t nice to me or my skin.
Recommendation: Buy this if you like powdered drinks and find it easier to remember to consumer. It will work. Don’t dump anything caffeinated into the bottle though! I will say it’s very affordable. I have bought protein mixes that I couldn’t tolerate for a lot more.

Glow Matrix from NeoCell
Glow Matrix is designed to help internally hydrate the skin. Key ingredients include ceramides, hyaluronic acid and the Glow Matrix Blend, a combination of vitamins, minerals and extracts that support hydration and combat free radicals. Ceramides are one of the hottest new ingredients in the natural product industry; they fortify the skin’s outermost layer and help keep moisture in. A clinical study of ceramides showed an increase in skin elasticity and moisture – as well as skin smoothness – by up to 36% with reduced signs of aging in just 15 days. A serving of Glow Matrix is three small capsules daily, and a bottle of 90 capsules retails for $29.95.
REVIEW:
This was my favorite NeoCell product. I loved these little capsules. If I remembered to take the rest of my supplements, I remembered to take this one. I saw a difference in 10 days (I was consuming a lot of water at that time). My skin got glowy by day 16 and I was really loving these pills. Nothing enhances compliance like see really nice skin. It’s not to say I didn’t miss a day or two here or there, but once I saw the skin sort of get a little lackluster, I realized what I was missing.
Recommendation: If you don’t mind taking a couple capsules, buy this! It was so much easier than the drink for me. I would get it done and move on with my day. The speedy results helped too! The price is very reasonable in my opinion, particularly when compared to the next product.

REVIEW
This is another liquid. It is premixed and in a glass bottle so it’s easy to take on the run. If you do, make sure you put it someplace stable where it won’t spill. It’s tiny (1.7 fl. oz.) and rather pricey at $5 per bottle or 10 for just under $50. It also should be taken cold to make it more paletable. The flavor profile was a bit unique: peach and passionfruit. I love passionfruit, peach not so much. As long as I had it over ice, I could drink it. Without it, the taste was not exactly what I would want.
Think of this as a unique liquid vitamin –which makes the ingredients get into your bloodstream faster. It contains collagen, hyaluronic acid, borage oil, and a multi-vitamin and mineral blend of Vitamin B6, C and E along with Copper, Biotin and Zinc. I would love to be able to tell you that it’s enough of those ingredients for the rest of your body but it’s not. Don’t give up the vitamin/mineral supplements in pill format.
This is product is a hot ticket in the UK and it’s where it was created. The UK study that is posted on the side of the box indicates 108 volunteers participated in a study. This study was double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized The results that were documented included
12% increase in skin hydration at 3 weeks
15% decrease in the appearance of fine lines at 6 weeks
27% decrease in the appearance of deep wrinkles at 6 weeks
20% increase in skin elasticity at 9 weeks
I have seen results but it’s easier when you know you drank the little can for the day. It’s a very small bottle — 50 ML (1.7 fl. oz.) to drink.
Where to buy: ULTA stores and www.ulta.com.
Recommendation:
If you like liquids or can tolerate taking a very small container of this drink, you will do fine. I find it so-so taste-wise. It helps if it’s very cold. It’s a personal issue with me.
While this product does provide results, it does take about 21 days (or more) to see visible results. I did see my skin take a turn for the better in terms of dryness in about 26 days. That’s promising. The trick is balancing the cost/benefit ratio and deciding if you want to invest in your skin.
I would suggest that you might want to try a couple of individual bottles of this Pure Gold Collagen. If you like the taste, then go for it. The price for this product is fairly stiff. However if you compare it to a higher end skincare product, you might be happier with these results. I haven’t been on it long enough to see how it much better my skin could look. Based on the UK study, I had just gotten started. (Now if I hadn’t gotten sick and wound up on a cocktail of pharmaceuticals, I would still be on it!)
Bottom line: each product in this review is worth trying. It depends on your personal tastes and your ability to mix and drink; take 2 pills; or drink a bottle of vitamin/mineral/collagen blend.
Thank you to Pure Gold Collagen and NeoCell for providing me samples to try.
