cheese Recently, I was introduced to DoorDash.com, a larger than local restaurant food delivery platform that will deliver restaurant food to you in less than an hour (providing the restaurant you want to patronize is on their list of restaurants). I was offered an opportunity to test-drive DoorDash.com
Disclosure: I was given a discount code to be able to try out DoorDash. I am able to talk about the platform with knowledge because I actually ordered food and saw the platform in action. The discount code has zero impact on my ability to render an authentic, detailed review on DoorDash.com’s service. What it does do, is make it possible for me to tell you about it with transparency and experience.
What is DoorDash.com?
DoorDash is a technology company that connects customers with local restaurants. Through the DoorDash marketplace, people can purchase food from local restaurants from inexpensive to pricey and have their food delivered in approximately an hour, according to their revolutionary logistics technology.
Founded in 2013 in a dorm room at Stanford, DoorDash began with a mission to empower local economies in a connected world. By building the on-demand delivery infrastructure for local cities, we’re bringing communities closer, one doorstep at a time.
Doordash.com is currently available in these cities and their major metropolitan areas:
Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas / Ft. Worth, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Orange County, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose / Silicon Valley, SF East Bay, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver, Washington, D.C, San Antonio, and Nashville.
What does that mean? It means that if you go to the DoorDash.com website and look for the cities, each city has a sub-set of communities in that major metro area.

I was offered a chance to test out their system and see how it works. I found that DoorDash.com really does deliver in my area- lots of variety from hamburger and coffee “joints” to very upscale restaurants. My family and I were excited to try it but we did have to agree on the restaurant which was indeed a tricky thing when you have 3 people with diverse tastes: two meat-lovers and one vegetarian. So while we went back and forth on the place, we wound up agreeing on the Cheesecake Factory. Not a bad choice looking that the vast options on their menu. I put all the requests in on the website and checked out my cost. I wound up with no delivery fee because the Cheesecake Factory wasn’t charging delivery fees. There are others who charge a nominal $2.99 and others who have higher fees. While investigating various restaurants takes some time, it’s no different from checking menus online and figuring out a couple of places to go if you were to drive to a restaurant to eat out.
Because we were ordering during the early dinner hour, we were given a 50-minute window for delivery once I submitted the order.
Here’s what we ordered.
Fried Zuchinni
Fries and Fried Zuchinni!
Margarita Pizza. (A swoon-worthy pizza)
The KOBE Burger (Got RAVES from the husband)
Here’s the burger before I stacked it up!
This is my Bacon Burger- all put together. It’s huge! I had to cut it in half because I couldn’t eat it all!
Original Cheesecake (his)
To die for: Salted Caramel Cheesecake! So rich and lush. It got shared!
The price was actually just about the same as what I would have paid “in store” (at the Cheesecake Factory). Probably a smidge less but if I had a delivery fee, it would have been a bit more but then the tip I would have left for on premises meal would have been more + beverages (beer, wine and soda). I love the convenience. The food was warm (though not HOT) and the delivery person was terrific.
I love the concept of DoorDash. It makes perfect sense if you are exhausted, sick or just can’t get out the door to do a pick-up for food. It gives you options to buy burgers from The Habit or other fast food places or more upscale restaurants that typically do not do to-go food. Personally I think the concept is fabulous. Compared to other food deliveries I have used, this one is superb in service and also order placement. It’s so far above other platforms I have used and the delivery is faster in some cases.

If I lived in California I would do this all the time. In fact my best experiences with GrubHub have been in the Bay Area. Tucson just does not have enough restaurants registered to make it good…Hope the trend continues and we get this service some day.
