If you are in Los Angeles or the OC (Orange County), you might know this new restaurant, North Italia. It’s located at The Point at the corner of Rosecrans + Sepulveda in El Segundo. It’s also in Irvine on Jamboree at Michelson in the center with Mother’s Market. Both locations of North Italia are doing hot-hot business!
What is North Italia all about? “the art of handmade pasta and pizza”
Devoted to perfecting handmade pizza, pasta and fresh flavors from the garden, farm and sea, North brings the traditions of Italia to life for a modern plate. Try the braised beef short rib with daily roasted root vegetables and creamy white polenta or The Pig Pizza with spicy pepperoni, soppressata, and Italian sausage. Serving lunch and dinner, everything on the menu at North is handmade from scratch daily using fresh seasonal ingredients. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the food is meant for sharing.

In other words, the food is pretty amazing and the service is great. I have been to the El Segundo location twice: once for a birthday party during Christmas 2016 and again in March 2017 having brunch after hitting a sample sale with Recessionista.com blogger, Mary Hall! Each visit I have been very impressed with the ambiance and the food. The birthday party was spread out closer to the bar and we had two tables to ourselves. The great part was that the servers did check in with us regularly. I stayed far longer than anticipated at this party so I ordered an appetizer (calamari) there too. Brunch was phenomenal and we sat out on a screened off patio that allowed a lovely breeze to filter in but kept us cool courtesy of the screens. The brunch menu offered lots of variety Everything we tried- appetizer, entrees, and dessert – was terrific. I had the most amazing short rib sandwich!
It wasn’t long after the brunch date, that I got a news blast from the North Italia PR about the opening of a new location in Santa Monica. Here are the details:
Fox Restaurant Concepts officially announced today that they will open their third Southern California North Italia on May 30, 2017, in Santa Monica. The restaurant will be on 2nd Street, walking distance to the world-famous Santa Monica Pier, Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica Place, and just steps away from other popular Sam Fox restaurants, True Food Kitchen and Flower Child. Like its namesake restaurants in Irvine and El Segundo, everything on the North Italia Santa Monica menu will be handmade from scratch daily and devoted to pizza, pasta, and flavors, from the garden, farm, and sea.
North Italia Santa Monica marks the 10th Sam Fox restaurant in the Greater Southern California area, part of Fox Restaurant Concepts’ network of nearly 60 restaurants nationwide. Founder Fox is a James Beard-nominated restaurateur in the Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year category and has been recognized as one of the 50 most powerful people in food service by Nation’s Restaurant News.
Behind barricades, crews are already hard at work creating North Italia Santa Monica’s modern 6,957 square-foot space, including an exhibition kitchen overlooking the dining room, bar, and seating for up to 211 guests. The restaurant also creates nearly 100 new jobs in the Santa Monica area, part of the Sam Fox family, of more than 5,000 employees nationwide.
“Our growth in Southern California is really exciting,” said Sam Fox, Fox Restaurant Concepts’ founder. “Santa Monica is especially cool, with its great mix of food-focused locals, the fast-paced business community, and tourists from around the world. We’ve had such a great response to True Food Kitchen and Flower Child in Santa Monica. I’m really looking forward to sharing North Italia with our neighbors in the Westside.”
The Santa Monica location will open as the ninth North Italia in the U.S., with other locations in Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, and Texas. The cuisine at North Italia is traditional but crafted through a modern lens to create delicious antipasti, handmade pizzas, pasta dishes, and so much more. Everything from the pasta to pizza dough is made fresh on the premise daily. The menu is constantly evolving to incorporate seasonal produce.
Open seven days a week, North Italia offers lunch and dinner every day, and brunch on the weekends.

May 30 is on the radar but it’s going to be a bit before it shows up. If you are in Southern California, I would suggest visiting either the El Segundo or the Irvine locations. Their beer, wine, and cocktail menus will make it worth the drive, I promise!
