Sometimes I get offered some amazing opportunities… and when I got asked if I wanted to attend a special concert headlined by country singer, Carrie Underwood, I am not one to refuse that kind of opportunity. I liked Underwood’s music when I listen to the radio but I had never seen her live in concert nor had I purchased a CD. I was able to bring a plus one who is a good friend of mine!

Here are the highlights of this great event! The Orpheum Theater in downtown LA is a vintage building, a historical landmark that has been refurbished and renovated to modern standards while still keeping the essence of that fantastic theater. ( All Orpheum photos are courtesy of The Orpheum Theater’s Facebook page. My photos just were not as sharp as these.)
Here’s what the Orpheum Theater interior looks like:– and it’s pretty spectacular!
Lights in the lobby that leads to the doors to the theater! This view is from the Mezzanine.
Lights in the theater as seen in the Mezzanine area- classic lights that were made from the originals.
This is a detail photo of the chairs up in the Balcony & Mezzanine!

This is looking at the Mezzanine from the floor seats . The extreme right of the photo shows the box seats. Those box seats seat at least 4 people. Moving from the boxes to the left is the front row of the Mezzanine. We sat in the second row – inside aisle of that section above the box seats. We had an amazing view.
From the mezzanine: the box seats on the opposite side of the theater… with an overview of the stage! Note the wrought iron detailing on the Mezzanine front row.We sat in the second row and got the same view! (The hair on the left side of the photo is from the person sitting in front of me. )

The pre-show events:
When my friend Chris and I left to drive up to LA, it was just before 7 and I knew the doors opened at 8-ish and the concert wouldn’t start till 9 PM.
This was one of those really magical, “I must have had an angel on my shoulder” nights since that drive is typically 75-90 minutes at that time of day. We couldn’t use the carpool lanes because the express lanes aren’t about carpooling but are toll lanes. Despite all that, we got to the theater in about 30 minutes! (Shocking but true!) I drove around trying to figure out where all the parking lots were and on the second go-round, we parked and walked around the block to get check in.
When I went up to check in, I found that they were already up and running at a special VIP table. I had to pick up my tickets -which I did. We did have a bit of mishap/misunderstanding. Initially they said my name wasn’t on the list– which is crazy since I could show them all the emails I had between my contact at the PR firm and me. They gave us our wristbands, tickets and lanyards with the VIP written on them and told us to head into the VIP Party. (???) I had not heard about that aspect of this!
We stopped to get a cocktail and the server saw my wristband and pointed me in the direction of the party! Wow! WOW!! I was so glad we got there early.
They had a full bar which was hosted: we got glasses of chardonnay. I was driving so I didn’t want to drink a cocktail. The wait staff were passing serving trays of tiny bites. (I mean really tiny bites. I had never seen a cheeseburger this small) but these tiny bites were really small enough to be eaten entirely in 2 bites. With an array of sushi, quesadillas, tacos, cheeseburgers and more little bites, it was quite an evening. The room was filling up fast.
We went over to pick up our gift bag. It was the best mementos of the night.
The Carrie Underwood at the Orpheum Theater gift bag included everything you see:
Poster of Carrie,
CD (the newest one!)
Pair of earbuds +
The lanyard had her photo too.
It was downright amazing!

By the time we got the gift bag (and everyone had one before the concert), we were ready to go out into the lobby because it was getting steamy in the VIP Party. As we walked out, the theater opened up the doors for seating and allowed those of us in the VIP section to go upstairs. While we had printed tickets, the ushers told us we would sit anywhere we wanted in the left & middle sections of the Mezzanine! Chris and I saw the first row was full so we took the 2 seats on the aisle in row 2. GREAT idea. We had an amazing view of the stage– and the photos below are a combination of photos courtesy of the event/ Getty & WireImage as well as my own photography. You can see the difference.

Carrie Underwood was the ONLY performer for this concert!! It was just her and her band. No opening act, just her! It was fantastic. When was the last time you got to see just one act — the headliner in a small venue like this one? What a great, great event!
Her set list was a collection of songs she is known for as well as songs from other artists. She played one from Dolly Parton and one from Randy Travis. It was a great balance and a non-stop musical show. She was the focal point and she did her thing.
Tidbit she shared: When she was part of American Idol, her trip to Los Angeles to be part of the show was her first trip to Los Angeles and her first trip on trip on a plane.! One of the events she had to do for that American Idol gig was at the Orpheum Theater….. and this was her first time back to this same theater since she had won American Idol! What a great thing to celebrate with Carrie! She was very accessible and really fun.
This was such a terrific show. We had such a great time. it was almost 90 minutes of Carrie Underwood. Did you know she plays harmonica? She also managed to pick up an acoustic guitar and played it during one song as well.

I would like to thank Carrie Underwood, American Airlines, MasterCard, Ketchum Sports & Entertainment, and Marissa Sturm for this opportunity to see the fantastic Carrie Underwood in person!
