Just when we think fall is really happening here in So. California with cooler temperatures and foggy mornings, the Santa Ana desert winds turn around and bite us in the butt with so much heat for the next week. 87 degrees will be considered moderately warm next week. No better reason than the desert winds to find a sheltered spot in the back patio or sit inside an AC cooled home or restaurant and enjoy some great autumn-inspired cocktails featuring Mister Katz spirits!
All cocktails featured were created by Nate Dumas, Bar Director, the Shanty at the New York Distilling Company
BIG IRON
Ingredients:
2 oz MISTER KATZ’S ROCK & RYE
1 dash Angostura Bitters
1 dash Orange Bitters
Method:
Combine ingredients in an old-fashioned glass.
Stir over a large ice cube.
CAVE CREEK
Ingredients:
1 ¼ oz MISTER KAT’S ROCK and RYE
1 oz Glenlivet 12-Year Scotch Whiskey
¾ oz Fresh Lemon Juice
½ oz Real Grenadine
¼ oz Campari
Method:
Shake ingredients over ice
Strain into a glass.
Serve with s straw.
MARTINI ROBBINS
Ingredients:
1 ¼ oz MISTER KATZ’S ROCK & RYE
1 oz Dorothy Parker – American Gin
1 oz Martini Rossi Sweet Vermouth
Method:
Stir ingredients over ice
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Garnish with an orange twist.
THE HARPERS FERRY
Ingredients:
1 oz MISTER KATZ’S ROCK & RYE
¾ oz Pierre Ferrand Cognac 1840
½ oz Botran Rum
¾ oz Fresh Lemon Juice
½ oz Simple Syrup
Method:
Shake ingredients over ice
Fine strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Lightly garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.
and one more cocktail for after the sunset when the temperature will drop at least 20 degrees in about 60 minutes!
NEW YORK DISTILLING COMPANY: “Rock Your Face Off (Hot Toddy)”
Ingredients:
• 2 oz Mister Katz’s Rock & Rye
• 1 tsp Fresh Lemon Juice
• 1 tsp Honey Syrup (2:1 Honey:Water)
• 1 dash Fee Brothers Whiskey Barrel Bitters
Method:
Rinse Toddy glass or 6 oz juice glass with really hot water then pour it off.
Add in the Rock & Rye
Then add the lemon juice and honey syrup and stir well till the syrup is fully dissolved
Add 3 ounces of hot water and stir again.
Garnish with half a lemon wheel.
Enjoy this array of cocktails. It’s perfect for just about anywhere but that hot toddy at the end will be great after the sun drops below the horizon in So. California!!
