If you aren’t familiar with Chinese medicine or Acupuncture, here’s some brief information for you on the a couple of terms and principles of what Chinee medicine, acupuncture and cupping are about. Cupping an ancient Chinese therapy or treatment used on various body parts. Within the context of Chinese medicine, there is acupuncture which works by using thin needles to stimulate and rebalance the “meridiens”of the body. Cupping also involves meridiens as well as muscles, blood and skin by using the suction action of cups.
Here’s an explanation from FSA Community Acupuncture website:
The Classical Chinese explanation is that energy (Qi) flows in channels (meridians) throughout the body and over its surfaces. These channels are rivers of energy which are referred to as meridians. The Chinese have identified 71 meridians in the human body, which is a basic energy map for all people. The meridians are often compared to a series of interconnected highways. Each of the major organs in the body is associated with its own meridian. Through the network of meridians the internal organs are connected to certain areas and parts of the body including the muscles, bones, joints, and also other organs.
The information below is from WebMd.com
Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.
The cups may be made of:
Glass
Bamboo
Earthenware
Silicone
Cupping therapy might be trendy now, but it’s not new. It dates back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures. One of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, the Ebers Papyrus, describes how the ancient Egyptians used cupping therapy in 1,550 B.C.
By using the cups in various ways (moving, static with pumps, fire or plain), you can relieve stress, tension, muscle spasms as well as improve blood flow which will do a lot to clean up problems in various body parts but also is beneficial for the entire body.

You can see in this photo that cupping is a quite popular and used by people (celebrities as well as general consumers) for health benefits. Michael Phelps was seen with cupping marks at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016 with cupping marks.
You might think that cupping marks on Michael Phelps is specific to just him. I have had tons of cupping done on my back, my hips and even my stomach. The bruising you are seeing is typical of a traditional cupping session. Yes, you will look like you tangled with a large octopus and lost the battle. They will go away. They will not hurt. It’s a sign that the blood flow is moving really well. But you do not want these kinds of bruises (regardless of size of the cup) on your face!
For those who want cupping done but who might not be able to afford professional cupping treatments, there are DIY kits that you can use at home from Lure Essentials. These kits are made with silicone cups and are slightly different from professional treatments because most cupping is done with movement.
Videos provided by Lure Essentials that show you how cupping can be done for a variety of treatments:

If you want more variety of cups to use there is this kit: Lure GLAM
There are a lot more kits from Lure Essentials. Take the time to explore the site! I highly recommend watching the videos because you can learn a lot. Until you become truly proficient with these cups, I would suggest you have a computer or your phone tuned into the video of your choice as you apply the cups to make sure don’t forget something important. The key element to a lot of the facial cupping is to apply an oil or serum first and then start using the cups. It’s critical that you keep the cups moving. Facial cupping is not about static cups. If you leave them static, it is likely you will bruise.

This post is primarily an introduction because I haven’t ordered my cups yet. I will be doing that soon. Once I get a handle on using them, I will circle back and give you a review on these great cups. I really want to use them on my face and body because I get muscle spasms from working out so much and then sitting a computer a lot!
If you buy one (or more) of the Lure Essentials kits, please come back and drop me a comment or two about your experience!
