Since access has been democratized, consumers have clear expectations that brands treat them as individuals and respond to their questions and complaints directly. It’s not just communication that’s changing; it’s everything from customized cars, to choosing your “sleep number”, accommodating individual preferences is a growing consumer expectation when purchasing products.

Thanks to online shopping, it’s easy to shop around and compare items before making a purchase, making many items feel like commodities. Brands must differentiate their products through storytelling.
