With the Academy Awards now over, it seems as if everyone was betting on a diverse range of movies for the “motion picture of the year”. The nominees were so amazing that it seems that some voted to reward their favorites in the movies nominated by voting for specific movies in specific categories in hopes of rewarding some of the most critically acclaimed movies of this century.
While some of the awards were truly surprising (and others not so much), some of the “picks” might have been predicted based on the social sentiments and shares long before Jimmy Kimmel was on stage.
Sprout Social captured data using its listening analytics platform around each film nominated for best picture and found that Call Me By Your Name was the projected winner among fans, garnering 64,758 positive mentions across social platforms. The Shape of Water and Lady Bird follow close behind with 48,039 and 34,268 positive mentions respectively. I’ve also added complete data on each nominee below.
