Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. was founded by father and son team, Jim and Jaime Dietenhofer, in 2010. With a passion for craft beer, they set out to pay homage to the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley with handcrafted beer and hand-drawn artwork depicting the local landscape on their labels.
Named after the mountain seen from their family home in Los Olivos, Figueroa Mountain Brewing Company opened in Buellton, California with only a handful of
employees. In a short five years, the company has grown to become one of the fastest growing craft breweries in America and now has a staff of over 200 which they affectionately call the #FigFam. There are currently five taprooms along California’s Central Coast. Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. beer can be found in their taprooms or at select retailers and restaurants throughout California.
Disclosure: I was provided one sample bottle of each of these beers reviewed. After all, if I don’t know how it tastes, I can’t honestly tell you how good it is!

The father-son owned California based brewery, Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co., has announced the seasonal return of their fruited IPA beer, Painted Cave. The beer is expected to hit Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. taprooms on draft and to-go on April 16th, 2018 as well as retailers in the following weeks.
“My father and I love bringing back this IPA when the weather starts to warm up,” says Co-Founder of Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co., Jaime Dietenhofer. “It has just the right combination of hop flavor and tropical fruit to make it a perfect Summer IPA.”
Painted Cave IPA, inspired by the beautiful Chumash Painted Cave State Historic Park in Santa Barbara, is one of the most popular beers to come from the brewery. The hoppy beer is made with hops that carry hints of citrus and pine, balanced with guava puree, making it a perfect refreshment for the upcoming summer months.
Painted Cave IPA will be available at the following Figueroa taprooms:
o Santa Barbara
o Los Olivos
o Buellton
o Westlake Village
o Arroyo Grande
REVIEW:
The Guava India Pale Ale AKA Guava Painted Cave is a really great beer. It’s fresh, lively and a great partner for burgers and a variety of foods. This one was my partner’s favorite.
Other brew samples that were sent were these three varieties:
Davy Brown Ale:
INSPIRATION
Inspired by a recluse pioneer named Davy Brown who settled behind the northeast side of Figueroa Mountain on the west end of Sunset Valley in the late 1800s.
TASTING NOTES
Brewed with caramel and chocolate malts with Northern Brewer and Cascade hops, this brown ale has West Coast hop characteristics with notes of coffee. Enjoy with a good book in front of a crackling fire.
Review: This is one dark beer. I have found dark brown ales as something that requires a time and a place. It’s very thick and hoppy.
My partner liked this beer very much. Rich and full of flavor, it’s a beer he would drink a with ribs or barbecue.
Fig Mtn Light
No need to settle for watered-down “lite” beer anymore. We brewed this light ale for a refreshing and delicious change of pace without any bitterness. Enjoy on game days, after work or just because. Why settle when you can have craft?
Review: My partner thought the light was nice but he wouldn’t drink it much. He’s not into “light”, but I am! This is one brew that I would drink. The flavor profile was well-balanced: not too hoppy or bitter. I really liked the crisp flavor and the texture. It was enough beer for me that day!

Review: This was one of my partner’s favorite beers. He’s big on craft beers and he was thrilled with the Blonde! It’s European style is terrific and delivers a weight that really carries over well with fish. He thought it was very refreshing!
