At the 2018 Emmy Awards on Monday evening, celebrity master hairstylist Robert Vetica sent actress Alison Brie down the red carpet with soft, volumized waves created using Olivia Garden brushes and Leonor Greyl hair products.
“We wanted Alison’s look to be very fresh and carefree,” he explained. “I went with an old-school set, then deconstructed it to loosen and finish it.”
To get the look, Robert began by applying Leonor Greyl Mousse Au Lotus Volumatrice to damp, clean hair to give the waves consistency and hold—the building blocks of a good set.
“I blew her hair dry using Olivia Garden’s new Ceramic + Ion High-Performance Professional Hair Dryer and Olivia Garden NanoThermic Ceramic + Ion Round Thermal Brush. The combination delivers a frizz-free, static-free finish with faster drying time.”
To ensure the waves would be both shiny and soft, Robert dried Alison’s hair section by section. Once dry, he began to create the wave using a comb and a flat iron.
“I started at the back of the head and for each section, I would spray it with Leonor Greyl Condition Naturelle heat protective styling spray to protect it. Then, starting at the base, I moved the flat iron backward and forwards to wave it.
“After the set was finished, I took Leonor Greyl Eclat Naturel styling cream and worked it throughout the hair, then brushed through the set with the Olivia Garden Divine Care & Styler brush to ensure the perfect comb out.”
Once the wave set was completed, Robert sprayed Leonor Greyl Voluforme styling spray at the root to create texture and hold, then used the Olivia Garden Style-Up Performance Professional Folding Teasing Brush to backcomb at the root for a halo of volume. Finally, he sprayed the whole style with a light spray of Voluforme to set the style and ensure it lasted all night.
“The juxtaposition of the waved set while leaving the ends loose creates a fresh take on glamour,” he said.
