At the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday evening, celebrity hairstylist Derek Yuen sent presenter Constance Wu(“Crazy Rich Asians”, “Fresh Off the Boat”) down the red carpet in a center-parted, super-sleek low-bun look created using Leonor Greyl products and Dyson products.
“The inspiration for Constance’s simple updo came from the way her floor-length, sequined Jason Wu dress was cut and the incredible Harry Winston earrings she wore with. She looked like a goddess!”
“I started with dry hair and used my rat-tail comb to get a perfect center part. Then I used a paintbrush to apply the Leonor Greyl Mousse au Lotus Volumatrice on the top two inches of her hair in order to set the part and help direct the hair back into what was going to be a low ponytail. Then on just the ends, I used a tiny mist of the Leonor Greyl Condition Naturelle leave-in conditioner to get a really shiny, healthy finish.”
“Next, I used the Dyson Supersonic™ Hair Dryer Professional Edition on the lowest heat setting and speed on the areas where I had applied to mousse to help dry and set it. I brushed through it with a boar-bristle brush until everything was perfectly smooth and the sides were flat. I then secured the ponytail with a bungee elastic.”
“Then, because we wanted the bun to be really small and secure, I cut down a foam hair ring into a narrower circle and threaded the ponytail through it. I split the ponytail into two sections and rolled the top half up and around top of the ring, pinning the hair in place with bobbypins that stuck into the foam as I went. I did the same thing with the bottom half but let a few of the ends stick out on the side, so it had a little flick and ease to it.”
“To finish, I used tiny spritzes of the Leonor Greyl Voluforme styling spray around the bun where the pins lay for extra security and then hit it with the blow-dryer on the same low settings to help it dry. To tame any other baby hairs and flyaways, I put a little bit of the Leonor Greyl Gel A L’hibiscus in the palm of my hand and swirled it around with a toothbrush that I then used to go over the entire updo and nape of the neck. So that the gel didn’t look stiff, I went over everything again with the blow-dryer, this time on the cool setting with the diffuser nozzle. The diffuser really helps because it doesn’t pick any of the flyaways back up.”
