Glenn Close is Hollywood royalty, and it shows:
“There’s something regal about how she looks tonight,” says her hairstylist, Brant Mayfield. The gold Carolina Herrera dress she’s wearing, with its cape train and four million hand-sewn Swarovski crystals is fit for a queen, and her hair and makeup needed to match the majesty.
Brant Mayfield provides this breakdown of how he did Glenn Close’s hair:
“I wanted to create something with movement and pieceyness, but that would hold,” says Mayfield. “She has a long night ahead of her!”
–He started with Leonor Greyl Condition Naturelle, a heat protectant and volumizing spray that he used all over her roots and on her ends.
–He then applied Leonor Greyl Mousse Au Lotus Volumatrice from mid-shaft through the ends and finger dried her hair, shaping it with his hands, until it was about 90% dry.
–Then, with a small round brush, he smoothed and fine-tuned, section by section, keeping the hair tight to the neck to keep it soft and modern.
–Next came Leonor Greyl Éclat Naturel, “probably my favorite product ever made,” says Mayfield. He used the cream, with a bit of hold, to flick select pieces so the hair looks “almost like it’s blown in the wind.”
Last, Mayfield swept Glenn’s bangs off her face, then sealed the deal with Leonor Greyl Laque Souple, a light-hold hairspray, so her hair would stay in place all night without looking stiff.
Kai Pritchard Provides the beauty breakdown for Glenn Close’s makeup!
For Glenn’s makeup look, Kai Pritchard prepped her skin with Retrouvé Dynamic Nourishing Face Cream all over.
“Her skin is dry and it was like a moisture surge to her skin,” says Pritchard. “It also has a little grab to it that helps the makeup adhere to the skin—perfect for tonight.”
–Next he applied the brand’s Nutrient Face Serum around Glenn’s eyes and over her T-Zone to smooth any textural issues.
–While the moisturizer set, Pritchard got started on her eye makeup, which he describes as soft and feminine, but with definition.
–The “defining” moment?
When Pritchard applied the Lashify at-home lash-extension system. He placed two, 10mm, dramatic Lashify “B” Gossamers (clusters) on the outer side of each eye, but left a little space for her natural lashes to peek through on the ends.
The effect: sophisticated, but still natural.
Fittingly, Close let her hair and makeup team “have free ‘reign’ today,” says Mayfield. “Glenn was totally relaxed,” says Mayfield “We listened to beautiful classical music. It was the most peaceful, lovely experience for everyone.” Adds Pritchard, “She both looked and felt great as she left for the red carpet.” Long live the Queen!
