I am obsessed with fragrances.. and I am not sorry. I don’t buy just anything, I hunt till I find the perfect scent for me. Body chemistry is everything. While it can be a challenge to find a great fragrance for oneself, the reward is substantial because 1) you are wearing a scent that really works with your personal chemistry and 2) you get compliments on your fragrance from people around you.
Considering that Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, you might want to research (test-drive) these scents. Choosing one to give will be hard but that’s ok. You can always give the other fragrance of this scent-ual pair of Eau de Parfums. There are a slew of holidays and events (Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, graduation, bridal showers, birthdays etc.) coming and whether the person is male or female, the fragrance doesn’t care what sex you are, you could — and should– try both. You will be surprised how well both these EdP scents work on either sex.

Maison Francis Kurkdijian is a name that’s familiar to my readers. Not only have I covered the brand before, I have actually interviewed Francis Kurkdijian at least twice (and I think it was 3 times, but I have to dig for the information). My knowledge and love of the brand dates back to 2010. Kurkdijian has always been courteous and open about sharing how he creates fragrances — and some scents have taken quite a bit of time. For me to share his latest two scents to you for Valentine’s Day 2019 is like a gift to my fragrance-obsessed brain. When offered the chance to review/feature these scents, of course I was thrilled to do it! I was sent 2 small samples that are absolutely adorable. (see below for the package and the bottles)

I was provided 2 small samples of these scents. I am obsessed with both these scents because each has a incredible personality/life on its own.
It’s impossible to authentically review any fragrance without a sample. It doesn’t impair or influence my reviews instead, it makes the review possible. Without samples, I could never call my piece on a brand to be a review. I find it impossible to guess how something smells when I haven’t had the chance to see/smell it in person.
Samples make it possible for me to provide an authentic and complete review. And you get to know whether I like it or not. Obviously, there are products that don’t work for me- but will work well for other people- and I try to specify who that person is. When I find a product that I can highly recommend because it worked so well for me, it’s ‘easy-peasey’ to tell you to try it. In the case of Maison Francis Kurkdijian, I love both these scents and I feel lovely wearing either of them– though I do love the gentle Fluidity Gold more!
As a keen observer of society and its evolution, Francis Kurkdjian mirrors his era by telling stories through fragrance. Gentle Fluidity is his answer to contemporary questions on gender identity.
— “Gentle” because benevolence is one of Maison Francis Kurkdjian core values.
–“Fluidity” because we are all free to express our personality without having to submit to dictates, just like the Maison has unlimited creative freedom.
Gentle Fluidity is the name of two new Eau de Parfum scents created by our in-house perfumer. A single name for two distinct olfactory identities. The same name shared by two creations whose distinctive feature is to be composed of the same ingredients.
About Gentle Fluidity:
When Francis Kurkdjian is asked how long it takes him to create a new perfume, he usually mentions the number of years that have passed since the beginning of his career. Twenty-five years.
For twenty-five years, he has molded olfactory matter and highlighted its visible and invisible facets.
Once again, Francis Kurkdjian disrupts the rules of fragrance creation with a disconcerting composition
When he overdoses some ingredients, he under doses others because fragrances, like all the things that move us, are essentially about balance and expected effects… No more feminine or masculine. There is a personality, a sensitivity, a “Gentle Fluidity” between all gender identities.
–Subtlety and balance throughout in order to visually tell these two creations apart, a special role was given to the color of the name and the cap and to the balance of letters.
–Silver for an aromatic woody “Gentle fluidity” featuring a capital G; gold for the oriental musky interpretation where the F is in capital letters, like in “gentle Fluidity”.
–Fragrance composition remains a broad topic. When Francis Kurkdjian conjures up a new fragrance, he follows a golden rule: to use only the quantity of ingredients needed to convey an idea and arouse emotion.

Subtlety and Balance Throughout
In order to visually tell these two creations apart, a special role was given to the color of the name and the cap and to the balance of letters.
–Silver for an aromatic woody“Gentle fluidity” featuring a capital “G” (in Gentle),
–gold for the oriental musky interpretation where the F is in capital letters, like in “gentle Fluidity”.
Fragrance composition remains a broad topic and for Kurkdijian, he’s pretty much a master of telling his story with a certain balance that tells the tale or conveys the emotion that he has chosen. When Francis Kurkdjian conjures up a new fragrance, he follows a golden rule: to use only the quantity of ingredients needed to convey an idea and arouse emotion.
Smell to Understand
Of the 49 ingredients used to compose this perfume duo, Francis Kurkdjian wished to highlight six which make up the olfactory silhouette of each of the two variations: juniper berry, nutmeg, and coriander seed essences, musks, ambery woods, and vanilla. In their own way, these two Eau de Parfums become comfortable and reassuring.
In Gentle Fluidity’s (gold) generous, enveloping trail, we can find coriander seed essence and an overdose of musks and vanilla. The floral, spicy note of coriander seeds brings, just like musks, ethereal volume, and a lingering trail.
In the base notes, the gourmand, reassuring notes of the vanilla accord enhanced by the ambery woods reveal a radiant, bright silhouette.
In Gentle fluidity (silver), nutmeg and ambery woods are dominant and release a vibrant, comfortable trail. As for juniper berry essence, it leads to an ascending, ultra-fresh, aromatic note, similar to a “gin frappé” effect, balanced by the dry, slightly balmy, spicy notes of nutmeg.
The base notes reveal ambery wood facets ranging from sweet and enveloping to powerful and dry.

Pooling Creative Talents
Since the creation of Maison Francis Kurkdjian, which they co-founded in September 2009, Francis Kurkdjian and Marc Chaya, CEO of Maison Francis Kurkdjian, have worked closely together on its development and the overall artistic direction. Although most fields of expertise can be found in-house, they sometimes call on external talents, whose creativity and sensitivity match those of the Maison.
Watch this gorgeous 3D film by Hugo Arcier!
To celebrate the launch of this new perfume duo, a 3D film by Hugo Arcier features Francis Kurkdjian’s office. Arcier, a digital artist, replaces or covers virtual as well as reality. Cyril Teste is another talented person Francis Kurkdjian had already worked with in the past. This producer, who was responsible for film performances, collaborated as an artistic advisor. Finally, the music composition was once again assigned to Yannick Kalfayan, whose first creations for the Maison date back to 2015.
When I have the opportunity to test drive a fragrance created by Francis Kurkdijian, I never really know what to expect, but that’s the point– to be surprised by his creations. And with Gentle fluidity – Silver and gentle Fluidity – Gold, there is something so unique about each scent despite them having the same ingredients. Kurkdijian has managed to create essentially what I would say are fragrance bookends that allow you to choose one based on moods and feelings.
–I love the Silver. It smells quite different once it is sprayed on skin versus what you smell in the bottle. On me, it smells amazingly like a gin & tonic in the top notes (the juniper, woods) and then it adds slightly fruit and spice (the nutmeg) then the base is the balance of the notes (coriander seed essence, musks, and vanilla accord). The Kurkdijian trademark subtlety is very much apparent and it has great staying power.
— I adore the Gold. This scent captured my mind when I first smelled it as I opened up the box. My bottle leaked a bit and so the first thing I smelled was the Gold notes– and I was blown away with this scent. My entire room smelled fabulous! When I sprayed it on my skin, it was even more powerful and delicious. The coriander and musks have a uniquely different perspective and presentation when mixed with vanilla accords as key ingredients of the top and heart. The addition of the juniper, woods and nutmeg keep this scent from being overly sweet and provide an amazing balance that keeps this scent going all day long for me.
It’s a hard choice to make. I would suggest pick one and then buy the other as soon as possible. These fragrances while made from the same exact ingredients are beautifully diverse!. Love, Love, LOVE!!! #I ♡MFK
